Hi folks. I normally hang out in the First Gen Forum on this board but I have a couple of questions on the possibility of putting together a mega cab on a Second Gen chassis. First, has anyone on here done this yet? I didn't find anything after searching the message forums. My observations strictly from pictures looks as though it might be feasable. I know the doors and front fenders have a different profile so will the doors and front end of a 94-02 bolt up to the cowl/firewall found on the mega cab? Is the angle and size of the windshield the same or different between the two series? Can the older dash assembly be mounted in the mega cab? Did Dodge change the frame in '03 to the point where the cab mounting would totally different? I'm a do it yourself type person and would want to do it at home rather than pay mega bucks for someone else to do it. The conversion would be planned to be done on a 94-96 truck. Any information would be appreciated.

There was a thread on here about conversions that addressed this kind of project a while back. Try searching on 2nd gen no drivetrain for body conversions or something like that. I saw a "sweet" 2nd gen crew cab quad cab in eastern Washington about four years ago and it was beautiful. All White with a levelling kit and 33" tires and custom wheels and a cab hi canopy. It had no badges or emblems etc. showing who did it so I assume it was a custom job. Just thought I'd let you know they are out there! Good Luck, Kurt

I found a thread from last January by Junkman. He included a picture of a 94 4 door that he had found locally. Looks like Chrysler followed its earlier trend (1972 - 1993) of retaining the basic frame and "under body" and just changing the outer sheet metal to avoid more expensive retooling costs. This would mean that they retained the '94 cowl and cab design along with the frame but with possible improvement tweaks. I guess from a reverse engineering stand point it might also be possible to take a 94 truck and swap out the doors and front end assembly from an 06 to turn the 94 into an 06 clone? I also did some searching on car-part,com and found 04 four door "1500" series cabs in the $3K price range. Looks like a doable future project since I am in just the planning stage. Anyone have any corrections to keep things on track?

I know this doesn't answer your question but there are a couple compaines that make a custom crew cab out of your truck. Bayer Automotive is one that comes to mind. Enterprise Engine had one done by Bayer. There is another in Michigan but I cannot think of their name.

I remember a Ram Suburban conversion made for some Saudi Prince in a long ago issue of one of the 4x4 mags. I can't imagine what it cost, I remember the article making a point of saying you'll never see one in the states. But it was a great looking ride. Petersen's 4 wheel and Off Road did some articles on rigs we'd like to see in the states, like the Toyota 4 doors you see on the news in third world countries. One I remember stated there were 2nd gen Ramchargers being made in Mexico. That'd be something I'd like to see! With a Cummins!

Strange that you mention this. I saw a truck just like this on Ebay a while back.
I wonder why they never made it. It was actually a very cool looking truck.
With a Cummins and 4WD, I think it would have sold great.

I too have often pondered the idea, of maybe finding a whole mega cab, or even just the 4-door 3rd gen body, and swap it onto the 2nd gen frame,front clip, cab and box!, just like the idea of the 3rd gen body with a 12-valve!!!lol,

There are 12v's running around that have been swapped into a 3rd gen truck.
