Mechcanical ISB???

Greetings everyone,

Would anyone know if it is possible to create a "mechcanical" version of the Cummins ISB engine to fit in a 1st Gen.? (Example: fitting a complete 24-Valve ISB head, ISB pistions, etc. to a 12-valve engine block.)

If my memory serves me, I thought I read something a while back about a conversion like this. I can't remember where I read about this TDR or DTR, or who the author was. Maybe I misunderstood something too.

I was also told by a Cummins representative that the true ISB engine could not be fitted into a 1st. Gen. due to having no provisions for the ECM/PCM.

If someone could shed some light on this subject it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Nicholas R. Gajewski

Re:Mechcanical ISB???

I dont have an answer for your queston, but I cant help to wonder if it wouldnt be easier to just replace the entire engine with a long block 24v?
Im not sure how all the electronics would work out... or even if you could put the p7 pump on a 24v in a 1st gen truck?

Ive also thought about this... p7 pump on a 24v in a 1st gen truck.
Either way, would this be a cheaper option than replacing internal engine components?
I dont know.

Rich.

I believe the guys with the dragster have a P7100 on a 24v. Pictures of it used to be in the photo section.

Re:Mechcanical ISB???

As does Scheid Diesel.... They have had a P-pumped 24V for a long time now. The other option is to put a 24V head on a 12V block with, of course, the P-pump. This would be, imo, a better option for a racing style motor as there are so many more options for bottom end parts for the B blocks.

Re:Mechcanical ISB???

I think Diesel Dynamics has done a few trucks with the P7100 pump on a 24 valve, also.

I posted awhile back that I was building my 1st gen with a PDR - P7100 STUPID pump, 24v head, special pistons, full load, etc.... We are doing the PDR-P7100 STUPID pump convertion on Jetpilots truck as we speak....As if it wasn't fast anough

Re:Mechcanical ISB???

What all is required to swap in a P-pump on a 24 valve? Can you install governor springs in it afterwards?
