Well it's time to kick off another thread. The other one is getting pretty long.
I'm not going to the Renaissance festival Sat but have rescheduled it for Sept 29th. Anyone interested in coming is welcome.
Sunday at noon we will be working on Mike's truck so come on over if you want to watch, heckle or help.[coffee]
Oh ya and tonight Keith is getting a new exhaust.[roll]

Yea, everyone at work keeps wondering why I go out every few hours and squirt something under my hood (the PB Blaster on those down pipe bolts) [guitar]
I'll check on the 29th, we usually wait until it is cooler out, it may be by then.

I'll check our calendar, we'd really like to go to the Renaissance fest. Won't be able to make this weekend at the Cave, have to get caught up on house work after all those weekends away.

Talked with Dave Goerend the other day and went through a question and answer session with him about what his suggestion for my truck would be. Basically he suggested that if I'm not looking to be a competetive puller/dragger and I keep the power mods modest then I would only really need a TC (Triple Disk w/ Life Time Warranty), the High Strength 1-2 Band apply lever, High strength apply strap and anchor for band, and a couple other small items. He also said we could turn the pressure screw on the VB out a turn or two to help. The total w/ shipping and after the core refund ($300) $1460. So it looks like we could be doing my trans pretty soon. I also have an eye on some guages.

Mom's in St Joes and doing well so I went over and watched Jeopardy and then I had a kids birthday party at the bowling alley, so I missed the exhaust install. How does it sound? Was it raining when you all got done, could you really get on it? Does it sound much different than a CR? SD, do you like it?
Sea:\>Drive
09-15-2007, 07:56 AM
Special thanks to Scotte, Ernie, and Travis on assisting on the install. We got it knocked out pretty quick. No I couldn't really get on it as it was raining pretty good when I left, but I think it sounds awesome. Just loud enough to know something is there, but quiet enough to keep the wife happy. I managed to make it drone once trying to lug it (which is hard to do in an auto). I'm going to love it I'm sure.
Did notice a big change in EGTs already. Cruising seemed to be quite a bit lower than with the stock system. Can't wait to hook up the boat and tow it around to see how it does when I'm getting on it with the boat attached.
As for quality, nice system, perfect fit (had to cut a bit off the tail pipe section that was it).
I'm headed to the dump today with old system in the bed (along with a bunch of other stuff from my yard), and I will get a chance to "get on it". [guitar]
Keith -
glad you like it! Put a 4"-5" tip on that thing are you are set.

Here are my results from the dyno on Saturday.
Low # is stock baseline
443/803 is Predator Extreme RKL with Puck on "90"
462/816 is Predator Extreme RKL with Puck on "50" started at 60 MPH
452/799 is Predator Extreme RKL with Puck on "50" Started at 70 MPH so the clutch would not slip
You can clearly see that I need a better clutch. I should have been able to lay down closer to 500 HP with a clutch that would hold.

Travis so why do you think you put down more power with the Puck on 50 opposed to the 90 setting?
Great numbers, way to go! How much do you have in the puck and predator?
Us 2nd gen guys are jealous of how easy it is to make big numbers with the 3rd gen's.

90 vs 50 - I have heard that they had a misprint (sp) in the destructions, I guess that they did[duhhh]
Cost - I have $451 in the Diablo Predator/Puck and a Quadzilla Boost Fooler shipped to my door.

I won saturday night at Chestertown, 321'-8" tho the sled broke at the end of my class with 4 fords left to pull...
it was prolly my best pull ever with a perfect launch, but the clutch is starting to give up the ghost after last weeks debacle...
anyway i can somewhat drive it, so i will bring it to the cave tomorrow and drop it off.
scott if you can let me into the cave i will rip the tranny out of it and inspect the clutch tomorrow...i should be able to do it in about 2 hours now. maybe i will get lucky and peter at south bend can fix or replace whats broke this week and i will still be able to pull on saturday night at mason dixon HAHA.

i remember his pull and he was the only person in that class to go past the "300 foot" mark but i dont know if the sled was starting at 0' or -30' ???
I know for the open diesel class they started the sled back farther, and I went 321'-8" and everyone said the sled was almost up to the original 300' marker

Helped my friend change the brakes on his wife's Hyundai (that took like 1/2 an hour) then "the girls" went shopping and left us boys home to drink beer and did some work on the boat (fixing all my scratches from 3 years worth of boating, gelcoat repair is easy). Sunday spent all day building a set of doors for a shed like thing I have in the yard that I need to lock pool chemicals in because of wife's daycare. I'm spent! I worked hard all darn weekend. Don't know about that knock-off of the Holley pump, but I'll tout a true Holley pump. I had a few good months out of my stock pump, then I replaced it with a campaign pump, issues after a few months, replaced once again with a holley Black (no Blue's in stock the day I sent my wife to buy it) - no more issues, at all. Rock steady pressure all the time. Don't know a thing about the bio though, I only use #2 in mine.

Yeah I email the address: MDDTR33@YAHOO.COM
I work this weekend, good upgrade funds, bad for the lack of time to do anything.
Renaissance Festival, we did that last weekend. Had a grand time. Long line of traffic on the way in. I guess we should have went earlier.

Travis i have heard of them, no comment. But why Pay them to work on your truck (not yours) when we can do it and have fun doing it.
What can they do that can't and we are not trying to make a profit off of the customers ignorance of the mighty Cummins.[nonono]
It was for Rick, but he has now found the place to be. [guitar] I will only pay for work on my truck if I can not do it, or we can not do it. My theory is if I won't let you drive my truck why pay you to wrench on it, it's like paying for tail and it being your wife/gf.[laugh]
That's next Satuday the 13th. Anyone else going?.
I think next saturday is the 6th, are you going on the 6th or the 13th?

Boots, Maryland performance specialties on Bel Air Rd. in Perry Hall carries all kinds of fuel pumps, look them up on yahoo or something and call them, they are only about 10 minutes from scotts.
also, i dunno how much bio you burned, but get to a station and get some #2 in that thing, the more you can dillute that bio the better the truck will run for now.

So when you bump the starter you don't hear the LP or Holley running?
Check your connections @ the LP and make sure everything is making a good connection. Also check for leaks @ the Holley and get your hands on those gauges and get them put on.

I am going the 21st, if you guys want to meet up and follow me, I have been there a few times. Keith, the club (Mason-DixonTDC, I am a member there too) has a large grill, everyone just brings some sort of grill item, or a covered dish or dessert.
If anyone is planning on dynoing, we should get there early, I usually leave around 0700. I want to dyno, who else?
For those who are considering going, you shouldn't miss it. Tons of cool trucks, very nice people, and big dyno numbers, what else could you possibly want.

The body shop could not believe that I went through a pole, they thought I was kidding until I showed them the pictures. I am not sure if you saw the pictures from at the tow yard or not. get this.... talked to a local diesel shop up here in the sticks and asked them how much it would be for them to put my valve springs on. they charge 80 bucks an hour, i was thinking maybe 4 hours tops for a good mechanic to do it so lets say 320 bucks. went up there today and they were talking about takin the whole head off, gettin it shaved and tested for another 150 bucks, putting a STOCK head gasket back on and sending me on my way (not to mention it would be at least 8 hours of labor). looks like ill be takin the head off myself this winter and doin o-rings and studs instead of twins :(
BOOOOOOOO!!!!
skynyrd
10-05-2007, 03:41 PM
give me a shout i'll lend you a hand doing it. you can do the springs with out pulling the head. you can also do studs with out pulling the head.
getblown5.9
10-05-2007, 04:43 PM
here is my suggestion eric...
if you want to do o-rings, and a better gasket this winter...hold off on the springs and do them then, its much easier and if you still have a stock turbo now, you dont need the springs yet.
this winter ill take the head off for ya and we can take it to a good machine shop that knows high performance cummins and have them check it, ring it, and put the springs on for ya.
BigErksG2
10-05-2007, 04:59 PM
well im doin the 4kgsk at fall brawl but ill just have to keep it below 3k til i get the springs done at least ill have fuel til 3k and not 2k. how much do you think it would be to check, ring and spring (i have springs i just need them installed) the head? I might just go down this road so i dont have to worry about my head gasket in the future and the twins will have to wait til summer although fabbing twins keeps me up at night like waiting for christmas!

I will know more on Monday, but after talking to them today it is NOT totaled. Repair estimates are pushing $20,000 to date. They have it torn down, checking the frame and shell for damage. The insurance company is going to replace two of my tires because they are scarred bad from the accident. I am just going to go ahead and replace all four with new tires so I do not have uneven wear on half of them. I am looking for a good all-terain tire that has little to no road noise. I do not have the $$$ right now for a leveling kit so they have to tuck on the factory rims and not rub. Will a 305/70-75/17 work? Anyone know where I should get them from that has a sale currently? I do not really need to have anything bought before the middle of November because they are going to have it until Thanksgiving. :o I will post up more details when I get home but I would like info on this soon.

Travis, Pro Comp is running their buy 3 get 1 free deal though the end of the month. It should be good at any Pro Comp dealer as it is a national promotion. If you can find a local Pro Comp dealer so you don't have to pay shipping, you should save some coin with this deal.

Travis, the Nitto Terra Grappler is a nice tire that comes in a 295 size, little smaller than a 33, and should fit with minimal rubbing until you can get a leveling kit.
You can get all 4 shipped to your door for $805 from 4 wheel parts right now... so if insurance buys two...that would be a good deal.

Thanks, I have found several websites and reviews of the all terrain tire. Sounds like a good tire, not for the big question, will a 33/12.50R17 fit with out rubbing or minimal until I can get a leveling kit. I found one site that I can get all four shipped for $474 after insurance pays their part.

Thanks, I found a few other sites that also have them, but none as cheap as 4 wheel parts. Is this the tire that your dad has? These would cost me $612 after insurance pays their part.
I am not sure between the two, thanks guys for the quick responses. I am going to beat on the Insurance company and see about them paying for all four and full cost for the factory replacement which is $914, so I could really come out smelling like a rose on this deal. I might even be able to afford the leveling kit after this if they pay for all four factory replacement tires.[laugh]

Thanks Rick, I do not have the $$$ to replace both the rims and tires currently and they are replacing two of the rims (including the one bad one from before hehe) and I like the factory look. I just want to get new tires. How do you like the Nitto Terra Grapplers? They look good on your truck but I am still undecided on tires. I am leaning towards the Pro-Comp all terrain tire since they have a 50k warranty and ore buy 3 get 1 so I technically only have to replace one then hehe. I am currently dealing with the insurance company on replacing four instead of two. Hopefully I can come ou tof this smelling like a rose (except for my raised premium).

Travis, I like the Nitto tires. I have been running them over 6 mos and they seem to be a good solid tire. They don't scream going down the road.
I got the tires for about $150 piece @ Auto & Truck Outfitters in White Marsh. Wheels were about $180. I just called them and price of the tires: $169. I think I caught tires on sale, if I recall. They have others as well there. I like dealing local when I can. 410-918-9600 ask for TJ. He took good care of my truck.
Might also check with Grumpy, he knows a place as well. Most of the folks had street trucks he dealt with though.

And the mod list to be installed after I get the rig back grows. :D I have a leveling kit and 2" rear spacers, so basically I have a 2" lift on the way. Ordered the stacks tonight. Gooseneck ball is going to be ordered tonight or tomorrow. I am getting upgraded nerf bars since the body shop will not deal with e-bay, where I got them from. Darn I get Westin Platimun instead of cheap e-bay one's and isn't costing me any more. [laugh] I just need to sell the shell so that the stacks and hitch can be put in, when I get it back. I am also going to get Pro-Comp Xtreme A/T 33/12.50R17, ordering them in the AM. I guess that the rig is going to be changing a little bit after I get her back.:D I think we are going to need a day in the cave for all of these mods. I will keep everyone posted on progress of her.
