Installs very nicely.

I recommend pulling the band clamp off of the turbo outlet if you can (depends on year of the HX/HY turbo on your truck ) to get the bolts loose for the donut clamp. After that, a sawsall is your friend for the old system.

Took me and buddy about 1 hour.

PB Blaster is your friend on the down pipe bolts
I came at the down pipe from underneath with every extension I had and a u-joint on my ratchet.
WD-40 the rubber hangers, makes it easier to slip 'em on and off.

On my exhaust, the muffler has a hanger welded to it, but only on one end. So if you put it in backwards, then obviously, the hanger won't match up with the supports on the frame.

Also, before you clamp the pipes together, set everything up and start the engine. Let it idle for a few minutes then shut it off and tighten everything. I'm not sure if it works, but I heard it's supposed to help with any potential drone or rattle issues.

Have you looked through the MBRP muffler? It pretty much looks like a straight pipe to me with a few honeycomb-like things on the inside. Is that thing gonna muffle anything? I'm thinking I'll not only hear turbo whistle, but maybe valves tapping, pumps pumping, and birds singing through that thing!

I painted mine yesterday with VHT (Very Hi Temp) paint to help with potential rusting down the road. Will let you all know how it goes once installed.

The direction of muffler does make a difference, the louvers open toward front =more drone, ramp of louver toward front = less drone. down pipe is a pain, I didn't remove crossmember. I like the 4" mbrp much better than my stock and I picked up mpg.

Pull up next to a wall with your new system and see if you can tell the difference in sound
I ran mine with the MBRP muffler for a few years then bought their muffler delete pipe last year. Big difference in sound, sounds like a semi.

My truck is a 98 4x4, I had to support the transfer with a stand and loosen the cross member to get the down pipe in. Everything else was easy. A long extension with a swivel socket made short work of the down pipe to turbo bolts. My mileage is up as well. I stuck the tailpipe out the back of the truck a good bit, drone is not too much of an issue. SD

If you plan on taking your exhaust apart any time in the future dont tighten down the clamps to tight cause after many heat cycls it will form a dent in the pipes and attach the pipes together making them a pain to get apart.

I did it and had to hack at it, not cool

You'd be surprised at how well it quiets things down. Even standing next to the tail pipe, its very quiet. For a truck that spends most of its time on the highway, its nice having only one end of the truck making noise. I love the straight pipe sound, but not for hours and hours on end.

When you install, make sure the downpipe is not touching the frame. I never had an issue with the MBRP downpipe, but with my hx40 pipe, it needed some clearancing. It rattled on the frame for a year and a half, and was the cause of a major drone!

Yeah when I did mine, everytime I tightened the bolts on the downpipe, it would move over and touch the frame again. So I stuck a piece of cardboard between the pipe and frame while I tightened it. Then I pulled the cardboard out and it left a tiny gap. It's a tight fit between the frame and tranny cooler line but it'll work. Everytime I make a u-turn the downpipe rattles on the frame though. I don't like it.
