so I just got home after being gone for 10 days. The temps around here have been low thirtys at night to 40's and 50's during the day. I went to start it and the battery was dead. No big deal I threw the charger on for ten minutes and she fired up. Let her get warm and drove her about 5 miles to my friends.

After three or so hours when I decided to leave I started the truck it didn't start hard but I don't think the battery was full strength. Then driving home I realize my vottmeter was moving as I applied throttle from 10 or 12 volts to the upper bars of the gauge say about 14 volts

I've never seen it do this before or is this because my battery has been drawn low?

Sounds like you need to go to autozone and make a $30 voltage regulator purchase.

Sounds like a voltage regulator issue.

And for your battery to be stone dead when you got home , even after 10 days. I think you have a draw somewhere.

If you have a trailer brake controller check all the wiring for that running back to the frame. Or unhook it all together. Sometimes those wires will get a bare spot and short out!

Brandon. No brake controller or any trailer harnesses. Will do a check for a draw though

Cold can do this. How old are the batteries?

>>vottmeter was moving as I applied throttle from 10 or 12 volts

Sounds like the grid heater cycling on and off...

the grids cycling on and of from 10 to 12 volts is fine ive watched the meter raise and drop after the wait to start light comes on for oh say 5 minutes. now in my case at the moment when im driving the voltmeter wil raise slowly to something like 14 volts or maybe more.

ill have a regulator on it by tonight so ill see waht happens

Test the battery before you buy a voltage regulator. Also check the battery voltage with a real voltage meter, not the one on the dash. 14 volts is what the alternator should be sending to the battery when the battery discharged or not holding a charge.
