I may have found a truck. Does it sound like a deal????

Hey guys!! I may have found a truck. Here is the low down......

2001 Ram 2500. LB. Extended Cab, Power everything. It has the Cummins H.O. diesel with the 6-speed tranny. 4 wheel drive. 101K. Pacer rims with some big ole mud tires. Spray in bedliner, Matching topper. Etc........ It is a dark green with a nice grey cloth interior. Body in good shape. He's asking $16,900. Sound like a deal?? Anything I should look for on this year and model? I did notice some leakage around the rear main seal. Thanks! Paul

16,900 is a good price. Check to see if it has rear disk brakes. Check fuel pressure. Check front end parts. Ball joints, tie rods, trac bar, all those things can wear very fast with aftermarket tires and wheels. Try to get any service records if possible. If everything looks good, enjoy your new truck

i agree with oestrich, good price, and something he didn't mention, check for "turbo tan" the turbo housing will be a golden brown color, and if it is tanned then it may have gotten too high of EGT in the past and might mean trouble.

and to check the Fuel pressure...if you don't already know...is to bump the starter and make sure the pump runs for 30 seconds. it's an easy way to tell.

if everything checks out, i'd go for it, and let the fun begin.

if the turbo is tan, it means the truck has actually been worked and the engine is actually broken in...

if the truck is bone stock and the fluids and filters have been changed regularly, the harder it's been worked, the better shape the engine is in IMHO

Bumping the start will make the fuel pump run but that doesn't mean it is working. You need to check the fuel pressure using a gauge. It shouldn't be lower then 8 psi at any time. Other then that, just check it out good. It sounds like a good deal. Talk to the owner if possible, try to find out how they treated the truck.
