Assuming you have a 2500 and not a 3500 either way I say fine.
I get a few pallets of wood pellets a year to burn, 2000lb per pallet and I barely hit the helper springs with 2k in the bed.

As far as the original question, I subject my '03 to those kind of loads quiet frequently, no problem.

Well, the truck can definitely handle it BUT I know my truck would definitely be sitting on the overloads with just one 2000lb skid in the back. Now that I added Timbrens I have no worries and the truck does not squat at all...

Ok so here is the low down. I tried it out this morning. The actual weight of the skid was 2400# which consisted of misc. fabricated and machined parts from my shop. I set the weight right over the rear axle as far forward as possible without removing the toolbox. As I lowered the forks on the lift I was not sure if the truck was ever going to stop sagging, once it did I was resting about 5 inches above the bump stops and there was noticable misbalance from front to back. So being that this is my brand new baby, I decided to re-evaluate my setup/ capacity before getting too carried away. Are some airbags in my future??? Hmmm...

back to the subject, I have to go pick up two pallets of grain for the live stock tomorrow. If I had a long bed I would have NO problem loading it into the bed. But I do not so I will drag the little trailer out. But I am only going across town.
I have seen a guy with a 500 gallon water tank and a pump and a metal frame for all that in his short bed. squats it a bit.
