Fog lights are probably the switch. that happened to mine. $80 at the dealer and 10 minutes to install in the parking lot.
I personally do not like those lights but that is just my opinion.

boots, get yourself a nice set of bulbs or new stock headlight housings if there is some oxidation going on with them. put the money else where in the truck... i bought a set of PIAAs for my headlights and factory fogs and im not messing with anymore lighting BS. they are great and cost me $130 for all 4....
also, dark headlights like they look good on dark trucks- not white. just my opinion dude.

PIAAs are nice, they have a blue tint to the bulb so they kinda match the truck- i know im a ricer... i got them from a buddy of mine that has his own website and stuff. they are a bad bulb, but i noticed that unless you do: upgraded harnesses, HIDs, or xenon headlights your basic replacement bulb is gonna suck.

Hey guys i posted this in the other section but figured you fellow md guys might have a answer for me. I am in the market for a truck and have been looking at mega cabs for a little while now. I just picked up my pre-approval check so its time for me to start getting serious in looking. There is a truck in new jersey that i want to go take a look at but am wondering about registering it. Can they do MD registering at that dealership or do i have to just get temp tags or something and bring it back down here and get it inspected and then registered here. And do ya'll know anything about the taxes also, do i just pay the new jersey tax and then be exempt from the maryland tax when registering or do i have to pay both.

you have to pay taxes for both states, youll probably have to get temp tags and get an inspection and regs here. that why if you are going to buy outa states its best to buy in DE, since you only pay md fees
06MegaCTD
06-25-2008, 04:26 PM
so i am going to have to pay almost 1500 in taxes when i buy the truck and then another 1500 in taxes when i drive back here and register the truck or do you have a certain time period that you are exempt
06 DIESEL
06-25-2008, 05:28 PM
You only have to pay taxes once if the state that you purchase has the same or higher tax rate as MD. I only paid taxes once for my truck when I moved it here, paid them in IL, not MD. They will not give you a refund on the taxes either, I tried and the lady looked at me very funny.
rollincoal02
06-25-2008, 05:43 PM
its different if you are registering it from another state where YOU had it registered. but buying it and bringing it here to be registered requires that you pay all MD taxes to register and tag it

Did someone say cheap eBay Bi-Xenon HID kits? Yup got it, love it. Yes they are very bright, no more issues ever! Worth the buck and a half I paid, but now even cheaper on eBay.
Haven't been on in a few days, puter blew up. Got my new one up and running now so good.
Got a new line of fire/ice installed, still don't have all the parts to the new stereo, and still need to install a comp and a Raptor one day, so let me know if there is a wrenchin' day sometime soon.

white99stang you just have to make sure that you tell the dealer that you are bringing the truck back to maryland and they will not charge you taxes in NJ you just have to pay the maryland tax when you register it. the dealer will check your license and make sure that you are licensed in maryland and the address is a maryland address.

the big pull that everyone goes to is the buck but it was just this past weekend there is pretty much one pull a weekend some where in the state rollincoal would know where they are on what weekends. there is also a drag race coming up in beginning of aug at cecil county dragway.
one weekend when we have a big wrenching day at scotts you'll have to come up and meet up with us.

You should just go down to the MVA today or Friday and get your license for MD. Less hassle.
You also need to go and Edit your post, take out the bad word or the admin will do it for you.

**** wish i could show up, i just got off the phone with the dealership in new jersey. Deposit is now put down on the truck so its mine. They have a out of state tag service at the dealer so he said everything will be taken care of there, except that i have get it inspected down here and send a copy of it to them and then they will send me my maryland tags. So its pretty much done, i will now finally own my diesel truck that i have wanted for the last 4 years.

Maybe throw on the Comp too, we'll see what else needs to get the done, but all I really want to get done is the Raptor...should take less than an hour.

Oh that cherry was sweet to pop too! Love my wire being tapped!! Thanks to all for the help provided. I still don't know how to hook up a comp though, TJ did all the work under the hood! [duhhh] Time to start saving the dough for the tranny I guess as I just can't convince myself to turn that darn thing down.
Actually (confession) I had it on 3x5 and it is a tiny bit stronger than the VA on that setting but not noticeable enough for the wife. Got to a red light coming home from dinner and a Mitsu spider wanted to run...hehehe this is gonna be fun!!!
Thanks for all the help guys. Got the gauges done and Travis pulled the silencer ring and some baffles in the intake. Had a good time.
Thanks again, the help was much appreciated. I gotta make time to make more of these.

It was good to get a chance to see a few folks. My son said Travis had the silencer ring out faster than he could grab a beer and see how it was done. I don't know if there is any real gains or not (as some will debate), but it sure sounds better.
I hope to get more time off to attend gatherings.

Tapping the manifold is easy, especially on third gens. Use a little grease on the tap and do it while the truck is off. We just did a set of gauges on MTC's truck this weekend, its nothing to be scared of.

IMO it is easy on a third gen, and we do not have to pull the liner anymore since I have a right angle drill in the cave. I can honestly say that I have not done one on a second gen, I was just saying that on third gens it is easy IMO.

On a good note I did locate an NP205 for the green an gold truck so as soon as I sell my black 95 Wrangler I will be driving that. Of course before I sell in I have to swap in a new AX-15 and Dana 44 which are sitting in the neighbors garage.

HEY MDDTR33 chapter!
Although i'm not an official member (I guess I need to join).. I was wondering if anyone local had the SMARTY JR?
I am looking into getting one for my rig (07 Mega 5.9L). I hear they blow alot of smoke though even on the lowest setting..... Looking for better MPG and alittle more performance.
I am also looking into putting on a PA 3 inch Body Lift. Reasons for this are:
- low cost, no need for a suspension lift cause I dont plan on wheeling my rig in the woods.
- I have a lifted toyota (Suspension and BL) with no issues... I just want a better stance on my Dodge but didn't want to do the leveling kit. I want the 3 inches all around instead.
Any advice ???? I Live in FOREST HILL ( near Bel Air, MD )
Thanks!!!!

Thanks!!!!
Don't do the body lift! They suck, look like crap and diminish your load capability. What size tire ya wanna run anyway? You can do a 2" leveling kit and run 35" tires all day long.
Leonard will have a 3 inch lift for sale soon. PM skynyrd.
To join the chapter just email me at MDDTR33@YAHOO.COM and i'll get you signed up.
Check back here for what's going on in the MD area.

Thanks for the info...I'll send ya an email.
I saw a few pics of Dodges with the PA body lift on them and they still look good IMO. Of coarse they have suspension lifts on them too but I have been running a 2inch BL on my 4runner for 4-5 years now with not one issue.
I really want to keep the stock suspension intact on my megacab. I am only looking for a slightly higher stance mainly for looks as it would be a bit higher than just a leveling kit. I would probally throw 305's or 315's under it after alittle more investigating. I just didn't want to spend that amount of money for a offroad suspension lift when its not going to go in the woods. :)
The biggest add on feature I want is the SMARTY JR. Looking for a local best price and some feedback on it. I am hoping they are increasing MPG as that is my biggest wish.....
Thanks!

you can get a set of 2" leveling blocks for the front for like 75 bucks and 2" blocks for the rear for right around 100 bucks.

Not a bad idea but.... don't the front leveling kits mess up the ball joints on these rigs after awhile? to get another 2 inches on the rear I would have to stack blocks...not good IMO.
Great looking ride...(has susp. lift though), but looks good with a BL.

i would really reccommend looking at the leveling kit. that alone makes 33's look like peanut wheels on my truck. i also have the tow package which raises the rear a little, not sure what youre equipped with. come to one of our wrenchin days and we usually have an assortment of trucks you can check out. body lifts are for non-full size trucks in my opinion.

Still looking for some SMARTY JR users with some feedback.

roofgoof,
i believe im the only member with a smarty jr(guys call me a pansy-a** of you want)...
so far i think its not a bad little upgrade. i bought it out of the classifieds here on the board- guy was right in pa. i am running the latest software on it and i must say its better than it was when i originally got it with the beta 2 sw. i run it on the 100hp setting all the time, but i will sometimes bump it down to the 40 hp setting. either or is safe on the truck i think. it gives the truck a nice little kick in the pants, increases the timing alittle, truck runs smoother if you ask me. as far as mpg i havent really noticed a drastic change in my mpg. i may pick up a gallon or 2, and thats not watching the overhead comp. i know coming back from the ocean with the chip on 100 hp i was getting around 21mpg doing 65-70, i had the a/c on and everything. i mean for what it is, i think its great. you can check DTCs, and do most the stuff you can with the smarty sr.- except adjust your speed limiter. i had the smarty sr before this and i never used it to its fullest capacity so i sold it and bought this. doesnt smoke much with the new software, and compared to the earlier sw the turbo lights quicker.
as far as your choice to go with a body lift- id advise against it like alot of guys on here already have. get yourself a leveling kit(topguncustomz.com) and some nice shocks for the front and be done with it. balljoints on these things are hit or miss- some suck and fail within the first 30k. others last quite awhile. i thought about spacers but ended up going with the lorenz kit, which was sprinsg instead of spacers and bilstein shocks. i like it, rides nice and sits great.
any more questions, dont hesitate to ask. any questions regarding the smarty jr., let me know.

why not? is it still for sale?
yup still for sale. I got phucked out of 4K so i cant afford it and a trailer, so im just going to buy a nice 2-3 car trailer and most likely buy a truck over the winter. diesel prices are getting higher and truck prices are getting lower. if anybody wants a 01 raptor I got it. this is also a great time for me to get modding my ford.

Thanks for the smarty jr. info.
I don't plan on the mega to be a racer...just looking for a mild / moderate programmer to increase mileage and to burn out a mustang here or there with the extra 100hp. I heard it was safe...thats the main reason why I want to get one..I'm on a tight budget so I don't want to throw alot of dough into gauges, upgraded transmission, etc....
Sounds like the JR is a good fit. I am going to start pricing them alittle more and we'll see what happens.
Cheers!

Just a word of advice to folks, if you have a factory service manual, use it! Remember you have it, and don't just "try" things or you'll waste a bunch of time!!!!
Spent several hours last night dismantling my steering column to look for the "switch" and wiring for backup lights (it is part of the new head unit I'm installing with GPS/Navigation). It finally got too dark and I too frustrated.
While sitting around the house I remembered I had the factory service manual...gee let's look in there, at the wiring diagrams, which tell me the exact color of the wire, and its location!!! [duhhh][duhhh][duhhh]
Oh well, back out into the rain to find that wire and finish hooking up the new system. Just had to rant a bit at my own stupidity and remind you all to use all the resources you have, you could save some time and frustration.

New head unit is in. Wow, gonna take me a while to figure it all out as it has so much in one package, but it so far so good and it is working great. My daughter helped quite a lot, she even knows how to use a posi-lock now (hehehe) and volunteered to crawl under the truck in the puddles. I'll be spending the rest of the day (until a party I have to attend tonight) playing with it and figuring it out. Anyone interested, the JVC KD-NX5000 is an awesome head unit in my opinion.

Right now Travis and Leonard are pulling the trans on V2.0 and doing the swap. Already got the trans out of V1.0.

I don't know what it is about crabs but you are right that they take a long time. when i eat crabs i don't go into it looking to get full. i look at it as an excuse to drink a few pitchers of pop and socialize with the company.

Only folks that I have known to dip tanks were inspectors. That didn't even occur very often. I don't recall ever seeing a patrol dip a tank.

I got the Axial ax10 scorpion. Working on a tube chassis. Not sure if I want to build it or buy it.

I am going with the AX-10 Scorpion also. I am going to run an old RC10-T3 body that I have....
Going to go custom on the aluminum work to match the body color...
Other than that, basically stock... No weights or foam work right now.....
I checked into tube chassis for the ax-10 and they are about $185... :o:o That's almost a much as the stock kit.......
lukedaemon
07-13-2008, 11:14 AM
Yeah there are a few chassis out there. All 4 link setups that will work with the axles and trans set up from the ax10. Found a place in PA near the Buck that had a lot of RC stock and hop up stuff in stock. They even had a rock crawling area and a dirt race track for the go fast types.
