How many miles till your CTD option pays for itself?
Granted, this is something that will vary from person to person, but here's my result.
I figured that I got 15mpg hwy w/ my gasser (dakota) empty, now I get about 20mpg hwy empty w/ my CTD.
Given the fuel costs here, that gives a difference of $0.035 per mile to operate (CTD being cheaper).
So, it will only take 171,428.57 miles before my $6000 CTD option has paid for itself.
Not to mention, I wouldhave enjoyed almost double the power the whole time.
Man, I love this truck!

Now also subtract all the gasser ignition parts that need to be changed (16 spark plugs on a hemi ), the cost of annual emmissions inspections, come on guys & gals, we can come up with more........
For the record, I bought the Cummins 'cuz I wanted it & I could, not neccessarily 'cuz I needed it. ;D

If you are going to factor in the tune-up, ect cost for the gass, Then you will have to also factor in all the bombs for the ctd. Truth is it paid for it self the first time I pulled it into my drive, some things money just cant buy!

Its hard to quantify the grin factor, the aroma, the turbo singing, the girl yelling into the Mickey Dee's microphone........
Whatever the cost, I think its worth it!

How much is the smile on my nine-year-old son's face worth, every time I start the diesel and it shakes, rattles, and roars?

Don't know about Dodge, but for a Chevey V-8, you have to also figure.....
Four O2 sensors after 60,000 miles
Intake manifold gasket after 75,000 miles (all vortecs)
Water pump after 75,000 miles.
Belt tensioner at 80,000 miles.
After 125,000, a quart of oil between oil changes. (Watched my neighbor add a quart yesterday)
Couple other expensive emission parts after 60,000.
8, $7 spark plugs at 100,000
Mostly freeway driving.
This is constistant with what other people I talk to experience.

Tartarus - every time I start the truck, my 4 year old son says "Daddy, You hear that noise?" "Do it again!"....every time we shut down..."brbrbrbbrbrbrbrrrrrrr" "Daddy, do it again".
"You want to go for a ride with daddy?" ..."YES!"

I got tired of trying to tow with a gasser. I don't care how much more the diesel cost, I was grinning ear to ear driving out of the dealership. I will never go back to a gasser again.
