Can anyone tell me how to remove the shifter from the trans? I have the old style shifter cover without the four bolts on the cover.

no problem. once u have the shift boots off and u can see where the shifter goes into the trans. All u do is take two screwdrivers and push down on the metal disk retainer thing thats inside the shift tower and around the black shifter and turn it counterclockwise and it will pop up and u can lift the shifter out. here's a pic to help explain..

Thank you. I finally got it off. Now if I could find an easy way to reinstall with a new clutch.
