Manual Clutch Slipping Issue
I have a 2006 2500 4x4 with the G56 transmission. Early on in its life the flywheel let go (1500 miles) and left me stranded. Since then the clutch engagement has occured near the top end of the pedal travel. In a recent journey (now with 18000 miles on it) pulling a fully loaded 12,000lb trailer I noticed the clutch slip at full power going up a steep grade. I had to back off to stop it slipping. I took it to the dealer but they could not replicate the slipping in the shop and were not able to adjust it to provide greater engagement torque. So I am at a loss what to do with such a young clutch. Most of my driving has been around town, unloaded. So it shouldn't be a wear issue (I am kind to my beloved truck). I know the flywheel/clutch assembly is a weak point in the drive train. What do the experts recommend I do here? Thanks.

I would stand my ground,,, and they should replace it NEW EVERYTHING,,,,,, FlyWheel/Pressure Plate/Clutch!!!!!!!
If you are out of warranty,,,,,,,, Put the Southbend set up in it,,,,, if you are not planning on any MODS!!!!!! the dual Disc is not needed,,,,, JMHO!!!!!
Just in case you have no luck with the dealer send a PM to Larry @ the DTR store he will cut you a member deal but ya gotta ask him for it!!! LOLOL!!!! Check it out!!!!!

I would talk with the dealer about riding with you and the trailer attached, but I doubt they will warranty it anyway.
I lucked out, my clutch lasted 90K+ miles. It slipped because I was running a chip that added power, and it couldn't handle it. I took the chip off and babied it to about 105K and saved my pennies for a new South Bend OFE. The kit I bought came with a new flywheel and clutch, and pressure plate as well as throw out bearing, pilot bearing, and new hydraulics. So far I have been pleased with it. It was a little costly, but I am now good to run a programmer and it won't slip.
BTW, my clutch and pressure plate were fine, it was the stupid dual mass flywheel that was the problem!
Here is a pic of the old flywheel..
Old clutch disk
New flywheel installed
New clutch installed
New hydraulics on top, old on bottom

The G56 DMF is the weak point. BUT if you don't add power, the stock setup will last forever, without abuse. The clutch could have gotten warm and slipped. These trucks, all new diesels, make a tremendous amount of torque. And the clutches are relatively small. In other words they are rated just over stock input. So any slip would overheat them and the rest of the hill would be a challenge. Nothing that you did, just a long pull and slip O matic. See if it happens again. The clutch is a wear item and won't be warrantied. If you can drop $2.000 then go with SB and never worry about it again. If not, gear down on the long grades and turn a couple more rpm's.

Hey, thanks to all of you for the advice. I'll baby it for now and save for the beefed up SB unit. Appreciate your speedy responses! Cheers.
