Angry Man! Still can't get over 35psi!!!!!

I switched over from the Quad Std box to the Race box and still I can't get this turbo to spool higher than 35psi!! The turbo seems to work great on the bottom end but once I get up to 3300 rpms it seems to level out at 35psi. It doesn't feel like I'm running out of fuel but do you guys think that may be the problem??? I'm still running the stock LP and the guage never drops down below 5-6 psi....

This "Smoker" version of the Race box is sweet by the way. It darn sure lives up to it's name......

This is the same turbo I was running on my 03 where that was not needed. When I put it on the 07 I did not have the plug that High Tech supplies but was told I could just put a 100ohm resistor in it's place and it has seemed to work fine. The truck would barely run without the resistor in place.

Just a shot in the dark here , but could you be blowing the gate open just enough to lose the extra psi on top?

Dodgezilla, I'd be tempted to go ahead and get their boost fooler just to eliminate that possibility. It might be like a 100 ohm resistor but there might be a hair more to it than that.

Also remember that turbo is going to be considerably more efficient than a stock turbo. I would not look at PSI so much as CFM per psi or per 10 psi.

You might be moving considerably more air than you think you are?

D'zilla, What is the highest boost you have had on that turbo with your old truck and the new truck... on a side note ..... aren't you getting too old for more than 35psi......just kid 'n ya. I'd wire the waste gate closed and see what you get. ks

Pinch off the wastegate hose w/ visegrips, make a WOT run. See what your boost is. If it goes higher you need to adjust the wastegate. This is the problem I'm having.

Boost is a measure of restriciton, just because you don't have as much doesn't mean it's not working more efficiently.

I was making 40-45psi with the TST/MP8 stack. I hear what you guys are saying and as I said the truck seems to run great so I'm not too worried about it. I'd just like to see at least 40psi since I spent the money on the turbo.. Maybe I have just amassed the perfect combo that doesn't need the extra boost. I may contact High Tech and get one of there boost plugs. I don't really want to get into blocking the wastegate off or anything like that. I'll just end up screwing something up....

The Smoker version of the Quad race box gives a little more timing and more fuel. It's very nice indeed. I have finally heard the timing rattle that I had missed when running the std box... Plus she smokes a bit now which I don't condone because it's killing the ozone layer and people of the future will suffer the effects of my mindless driving habits but I can't seem to keep my foot out of it long enough for it not to smoke....

Thanks for the replies fellers. And thanks Quad for the great service. Let me know if you find anything wrong with that Std box. I have had no issues with this box since installing it.

Aahhhhh, geez.............

Basically it stretches the duration further on the bottom as well as adds a little more timing right off the bat. It is basically for smoke and a little more torque.

Here is the problem. When we do this the factory wastegate does not really like it. You can still achieve the higher boost levels but, it likes to hang out at 26-29psi before closing up.

Its a long story but, if you want smoke it wil do it.
If you have an aftermarket turbo it works great.
For a stock turbo I do not really recommend it.

I'll just give another plug for the Quad stuff. I've been around these boards for a long time and I have run many plug-in boxes on my trucks. There have been zero boxes yet that have given the smooth power increase that the Quad boxes do. The power does not come on as violently as it does with most boxes.

Thanks for the replies, I think I'll leave mine just as it is. I've got the "Smoker version" in my Smarty.
Dodgezilla, I'm still thinking we might have the same issue. I called HT and they told me to do the pinch off test, and if I saw more most, then they didn't set the wastegate properly for +/-40psi. I've put a adj. boost elbow on also, and now the boost raises to 46-48psi then backs off down to 36-38psi, so that didn't work either. The only answer I can come up w/ is to adj. the wastegate which is a major PIA on mine. I have no clearance for any type of adjustments.

Quick Reply: Man! Still can't get over 35psi!!!!!
