Sounds like you need to research the thread on static shock ;)

A friend of mine found a great way to use an old electric fence unit with his car. He isolated the electrical system with cutoff switches first then hooked it up to the body of his car. He says those blood curdling screams at 2 am are music to his ears! especially on rainy nights!

Warning on that Idea! I have no doubt it would be considered illegal and you could very easily end up with a law suit. Some greedy lawyer will claim you violated the criminals right to steal your stereo and hence ruined his chance to make a living!. Stupid...of course but not unlikely. Victims have no rights.

I'm not sure how our whacked out legal system works anymore, but theoretically, couldn't you put a sign up next to an electricfied truck that warns of the impending danger? And if someone went ahead and touched it, it'd be their own fault.

hahaha. Man I love this site! I think that I would be stupid and go to get in my truck and shock myself.. I know I would.. It would teach the dogs to **** on your tires.

Lary Ellis (Top)

The alleged criminal would claim he didn't see the sign and you would still be liable. I saw someone get sued because a burglar climbed over his fence into the backyard and got bit by the dog while jimmying open a window. He won in court and the homeowner had to make restitution.
We have the best legal system in the world but the liberals have got it all geared toward protecting the criminals rights. Somehow this foolishness needs to be changed.
Rattlin I am not versed on every states laws but in most places I believe anything that causes harm to a criminal on your property, you are liable!. Now if he has a gun in his hand and is threatening your life, you can use force. but even then you will be arrested till they prove you were acting in self defense. Which by the way seems to have different levels to suit the level of threat.
The old saying "shoot em and drag them inside" has no merit what so ever. He better not be moved from where he lands, and he dang well better have a deadly weapon in his hand when they do the investigation. Crazy world we live in, but it is all we have!.

Better put a cattle prod in his hand and say he was gonna shock you first, but they're right. You can't hang horse thiefs anymore. Anything that may cause death or injury is considered lethal force. You can't use lethal force for property crimes, just dangerous felonies. On the good side, it seems to me (my opinion) that society is leaning towards home invasion as being considered a dangerous crime these days, as opposed to a breaking and entering. It all depends on who gets their point across to the jury better.

Top, ever try to hook up a sling-load before grounding the cargo hook? I had thought through this once before also - had it all figured out using an ignition coil - then it hit me - what if some kid accidentally touched it............... Sorry about your flags, glad it wasn't your truck :(

A burglar broke into a house here, through the attic. He was walking around the attic and he fell through the ceiling. He sued the people who owned the house he broke into for having "unsafe ceiling support" or something along those lines....and won.

Any judge or jury that awards any criminal ANYTHING should be shot on the spot. No questions asked. Any moron that let any of that even get to the point of being in court should be shot. I think some of the third world countries have a better justice system than we do here. Thief? Hand chopped off. End of story. Etc, Etc, Etc.... have a nice day! ;D

Tony

I have the perfect solution to this problem, it goes a lil like this. A very well known National jewelry store here was having break-ins and losing alot of product. There is a company that makes a smoke generator tied to the burglar alarm. When I viewed the playback of the robbery on the time lapse recorder tied to the many story cameras I cried because I was laughing so dang hard. The alarm went off and here came the smoke, poor guy could not even find the door in time before the police showed up. [laugh] BUSTED

ATF made me remove them
Probably for the best, I knew one day I would rupture one by accident :'( :'(
Does the ATF hang out at your house on a regular basis? [laugh]
[laugh] [laugh] Good question Tony! No would be the answer. I am a Federally Licensed Gunsmith and have done custom work for many agents and Law Enforcement Indidviduals. The Law does allow the ATF to search my business premises anytime they want. Not a problem for me as I love my freedom, so would not do anything Illegal intentionally. However I won't say I haven't bent the rules of law from time to time over the years, mostly from just being a normal red blooded boy as we all do.
Artificial Intelligence is No match for Natural Stupidity! ;D

Since when is an electric fence or an ignition coil lethal ? At 10 my daughter grabbed an electric fence at a friends house. Never did it again ;D Years ago, Model T coils were used for the alarm purpose. See you did not need the siren, you just hear the screams [eyecrazy] Seriously, I wonder how the ECM would like the high voltage discharge?

I would be sued and support his habits for the rest of my life, and prosecuted for assault with intent to commit great bodily harm, and felony rigging of a booby trap [eyecrazy] :'(

That's it in a nut shell RTO. He would have nightmares from the dastardly ordeal and not be able to work because of his nerves. And some bonehead of a shrink will list him disabled because of your effort to protect yourself. Thus leaving you to pay for his new entertainment center and put his eleven children through college. While he lays on the couch watching Jerry Springer [eyecrazy]

I think the "pre-meditated" term may come in here as far as the electrical shock goes even though I agree with it 110%.

A friend of mine had a good trick in his safe one time. He had a Browning safe with a LARGE amount of guns in it. I wish he hadn't showed them to me but anyway, he kept two one pound butter bowls half full of black powder. The butter bowls had saran wrap on the tops so I asked him what that was for. He said the only way to get into the safe was with a torch. Well, he may not have his guns any longer but the burglar sure wouldn't have them guess what, and no law suits due to no evidence. Can you say Kaboooooooommmmm!

Not saying that this is a good idea but sounded good at the time.

My neighbor had an electrical alarm that would knock the sh_t out of you if you touched his truck. It ended up shocking some old man in a parking lot that had bumped his truck. I don't remember what the actual charges where that was imposed on my neighbor, but I remember it was quit heavy.

Ron

Let me say this, if you are going to try and steal my truck from my house, then by all means, try. Not only will it wake my parents up, it will wake up both dogs, me, and the neighborhood. And when I hear it fire up and I'm not the one doing it, you can guarantee I'm coming out there with a 12 ga. shotgun. I'll blow all four tires before I'll let you take my truck. Then I'll shoot you in the knee so that way you won't be able to walk and I'll let you sit there till the cops arrive. I have a normal alarm and although it won't scare anyone off, it will alert me and I'll know something is wrong.

When my mom and dad first got married, they were living in a town house. Well, a few apartments down, there had been a robbery and someone was killed. My dad went and bought my mom a .38 pistol to protect herself if he wasn't home. When the officer came by to talk to my parents about the thing, my dad told him what he had done and why. The officer told my mom that if the guy does break in, shoot to kill, when you kill him, wipe the gun off and put it in his hands and then call him. There would be no questions about it.

A friend of mine was telling me this story. A while ago, a burglar had broken into this lady's house through the attic. He was walking around and fell through the attic onto a butcher's knife in the kitchen. He sued the lady for endangering his life or some crap and won. I love our "justice" system. ::)
