Malfunctioning grid heater??
It's been really cold up here in these parts lately... around -20F. In the last few days, I've noticed that the wait to start (grid heater) symbol will come on, but it's been staying on a lot longer than it used to on some occasions....15 seconds or more. Other times it will go out and I'll it'll start fine, but then the grid heater stays on after it starts... again for 15 seconds or more. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it supposed to stay on for this long? It's always cycled on and off in intervals of 3 seconds or so. I'm thinking that it could be a faulty relay or some such thing. I'm just worried that with it staying on so long, something's going to fry under the hood. I'm thinking of taking it in to the dealer to have it looked at, but I'd appreciate any feedback from anyone out there.

Its possible to have a faulty relay as it does not sound like the normal cycle.
I am over here in SK and have a 6.7. My light only comes on for the one time and I start it. I know a few years back a guy near me had his heaters stay on...fried the big wire to them, and yellowed the intake from heat...could have been a lot worse but he smelled the burning wire.
Chances are you take it to the dealer and they will not duplicate the problem I would get it checked if possible.

This topic makes me get chills. I have driven over 12 rentals while the techs scratched their heads over it...
It took Chrysler nearly 2 yrs to figure out what the heck was going on with my truck. The grid heater kept throwing the engine light after starting. First the changed the grid heater it was fried. Next they realized it wasnt grounded properly, then they assumed it was a computer issue and just a fluke.
Finally they had an updated flash..and knock on wood..no issues since. Now it would start EVERYtime but the engine light would come on...and I kept having issues with the batteries losing charge after 2 days of not being driven. It was all in relation to the grid heater....its a huge draw on the battery, and it wasnt turning off.
