Why are downloaders so easily detected by a dealer???? What makes the Smarty different???? Has anyone tried to get warranty work done with a smarty yet???? Not ******* smarty just trying to learn..... By the way I am also not trying to rip off my dealer I have one of the few who are cool with mods.........

From what I understand on Bullydog is that it goes in are overwrites the factory ecm's memory and put it's own program in. Thus when you go back to "stock" it is not the same.. There is a break in the memory? Not sure about the smarty just got one today!!! Unfortunately the truck goes is to the shop tomorrow for more darned death wobble. I am sure someone more knowledgeable than me will chime in... maybe Bob Wagner...

I believe the key cycles is the main give away. and suposively when programmed back to stock it is not the true cummins stock program it is the downloader's stock program which was written by the company itself..

Those are true things but, the ECM also logs data. It will store things such as fuel amount used or injected, boost, injection pressure, commanded pressure, and all sorts of stuff that the downloaders change.

The plug in boxes block the ECM from seeing the real data.
