Magnets for Frantz users...
I was sorta disappointed that my '02 Dodge no longer provided a magnet in the oil drain plug like my '91 had - during break in, there was plenty of accumulated metallic "fuzz" on the magnet every oil change, slowly diminishing until it stopped at about 20,000 miles...
Since I have a Frantz bypass oil filter installed on my truck, I decided to incorporate a killer magnet system inside it to do what Cummins and Dodge don't... Cost of components was about $2.50 for the magnets, a stainless bolt, nuts and washer - and the PVC pipe plug fitting that inserts into the center core of the Frantz - you must check to make sure the outer cover will still fully seat after the new assembly is inserted, slight trimming/filing of the PVC might be required for proper fit - the whole thing simply drops into place, and is easily removed for inspection and cleaning when a new filter element is installed.
The neat thing is, ALL the engine oil MUST flow directly and closely past those magnets every time the oil is circulated thru the filter... ;D ;D ;D
