M-B diesel in Dodge trucks?

Anyone heard this rumor yet?
Pulled this bit of "info" from another site.

This was a reply to a question about how much longer Cummins has a contract with Dodge.
I posted until 2007, then another poster gave this:

quote
The Benz will be the regular Diesel, and the Cummins will be an available but more expensive option.

what i heard is that they will keep the ctd and offer the mb motor as an option. the problem is from what i read is that the mb motor considered weighs a lot more then the ctd. it makes sense that they want to use a mb motor since it is part of that company.

Re:M-B diesel in Dodge trucks?

I don't know if they can cram the MBE900 six in there, it's a bigger motor than the Cummins. It also puts the stock HO to shame, torque wise. I think the four would fit, but it's a little wimpy. Maybe as a pickup motor they could uprate it some, but with the diesel pickup HP wars on, I don't think they could sell many people on a 4.3 liter four (now in a Dakota, that'd be 8)). I think the coolest thing about the MBE900 motors is that they are available with an honest-to-God ENGINE brake. Unfortunately they use an exhaust brake in conjunction with the engine brake so as to muffle the sound, but I'm sure that feature could be defeated... ;D

Re:M-B diesel in Dodge trucks?

Fleets running the bigger 12ltr MB4000 is having very good luck with it. JB Hunt etc. What really shines in the bigger displacement MB is the internal turbo brake, which has more braking power than the regular Jacobs engine brake. BHP is raised with the turbo brake to 500. The head is actually 6 single heads. Each head has 2 intake valves, 2 exhaust vales, and 1 constant throttle valve. The same design is used on all MB engines, no matter what the HP is you are looking for. The MBE 4000 uses one piece aluminum pistons manufactured by Mahle. It also has individual injection pumps, so if one goes down, the othes make up for the loss to keep the truck running. But, if you think CAT parts are high, just wait till you are at the other end of the bill for the MB engine.

Not a fan of the MB

Re:M-B diesel in Dodge trucks?

Well, looks like I better buy a spare engine and plan to keep this truck for a long time. I just dumped two MB's to get rid of them and will never own another anything with MB on it again. I thought that stood for quality but I have serious doubts now. Personally, I think the name is highly overrated. That's just my opinion.

Maybe by 2007 DC will offer an equivellant to the Ford 450 & 550 's where the bigger MB diesel would be a viable option.

BIG maybe

I would rather see the C series though. There you go - a C series 4500 pick-up with 19.5" wheels. Would that sell or what!

db

Neither am I. ;D

Frankly, I'm skeptical of the MB in a Dodge rumors that keep cropping up. Dodge has had a very successful relationship with Cummins - the numbers alone would argue against such a change. And, Dodge literally built the engine compartment in our trucks with the Cummins in mind.

Best to y'all
