does any one use lucas oil stabilizer in there 1st gens is it recomended or have heard any bad things

i did once but heard bad things... can't remember what. the overwhelming responce i seem to hear when really talking about this stuff is to run the regular rotella T 15w-40 and the thing will go forever. hope i don't start war with that, but that's all i've been running and i've been very happy.

i do kinda remember something about a website that showed that the lucus would trap lots of air and almost get to the point of being "foamy" next time you see one of the lucus things that you spin with your hand to see how much sticks to the gears bring in a cordless drill to give it a really good spin! test the theory lol, and let me know how it turns out.

I use lucas in everthing, in all my vehicals. Engine, trans, t-case, diffs, pwr steering, and fuel. I am always impressed with how well everthing stays coated with oil. It is a pain to clean as it really sticks and it does thicken the oil slightly however I think its coating ability makes up for this. Also fixes slight seapege due to dry seals as it makes them pliable again. I have fixed two slightly leaky pwr steering pumps just by removing some fluid and relacing with lucas. startin to sound like a lucas rep or something. Any way just my .02 cents.

Some additives may be worthwhile under certain conditions. Most are snake oil. If you want to really learn about that stuff go to the BITOG forum and check out the "Fuel/Oil Additives/Eng Cleaners" section.

What about the Lucas Fuel additive? The guy at NAPA was pushing it pretty hard. He had a mechanically original first year GM 6.2 with 273,000 that he used it in for every tank. He swore by it.

BITOG is an acronym for Bob Is The Oil Guy. Bob Shaeffer of Shaefffer's oil started a web forum years ago for boutique oil nerds (Wanna's term, not mine ) and their hangers-on. It has since grown into a popular forum for people seeking online automotive-type lubrication interaction. Some regard their more senior members as the cyber authorities in all things automotive.

There's alot of good information there if you can overlook the self-procalimed experts who are lucky to know the difference between a drain plug and a spark plug and the troublemakers who just want to nit-pick and one-up every post they read.

The oil additive, no. I would use the fuel additive if the price was right.

There's just something not right about those folks. They're not as bad as the flashlight geeks, though.

If I have a lubrication related question, BITOG is where I go for info.

I use the oil addiatve in my 83 chevy sub with 454 and it really cut's down on the oil consumpson, Don't know if I would use it in my truck. I have also put there tranny stuff in both my sub's tranny and my trucks tranny, didn't seem to help any but I don't think it hurt any. I don't know if I would use any of there fuel stuff again, I put some in my dodge and not long after, The injector pump started leaking???? don't know fer sure if that had anything to do with it or if it's just my luck??? but still don't think I'll use it again. The only place foam belongs is on the top of an ice cold beer! I would not use it(lucas). All the good engine oils are made to prevent foaming because it is a bad thing. I once used it in my a518(auto trans formula) and the dipstick looked real foamy when I checked the fluid so I changed it right away. But that is just my opinion and you no what they say about those..........every body has one.....verte más adelante.
