I’m thinking about getting a tank full of LSD. How much trouble can I get into for running this on the street?
How would they even check for it?

If you can find it there is nothing to prevent you from using it.

Running LSD is only illegal in engines made after Jan 2007.
Highly doubt there is anyone checking though but it would be self defeating anyways on a newer truck because the LSD can clog up the smog system.

It isn't illegal, but harmful to anything that has a DPF. You'll be fine running LSD!

For trucks that you show LSD would be better for them IMO.
It can be found. Check truck stops like Flying J, Loves, Pilot, TA, their web sites often will show who still has LSD. We used LSD on out 2002 on the trip from AZ to Houston TX. Found it at trucks stops. You pull in with the 18 wheelers. Some stations don't like it, but so what you are the customer.
Had a Citco here in NW houston I got LSD from untill it was rebranded to Chevron.

Then go for the LSD at Flying J. I think it is better for the older engines.

Exactly.... Makes darker smoke too and smells stronger when it burns. Oh, how I miss LSD (the fuel). I wish I could find it here....[verymad] still looking.

All my smog stuff fell off and I can net just slightly better mpg when towing. Otherwise I have not noticed a huge difference. I get mine at the Flying J in Gary IN. Only 6840 miles before I hit 100K on my 6.7. Nothing major repaired or replaced. Better mpg then my 07 5.9 with the alterations and no power mods.

Scotty, is there anything electronic that needs to be tricked when the smog stuff falls off?

I got a small 'fooler' box that tells the ecm all is well with regards to the DPF.
I could put an Edge box on that clears the codes at start up but the engine light does not bother me. I can clear codes at start up with my code reader and as long as I hit the open road asap...the engine light stays off but once I am idling and slow driving...it comes back on. They are soft codes so the truck stays operable...no limp mode. Well worth it. The exhaust change I did with getting rid of the dpf gave me a real nice tone...not a drone and not loud.
I have no black smoke either. I did get smoke when I had only done the dpf and the PCV. After the EGR fell off...no more smoke. MPG gains were impressive.
Scotty
I've read post of people who lost the DPF getting an improvement of 3 mpg in city driving and even more on the hwy when empty.
