LSD checks.

Howdy,

Well the truck I make money with is a 96 2500 CC 4X4 LWB with 3.55 gears and the camper package. Unfortunately it is gas powered (360). It has all the running gear for a Diesel, just not the engine. But I have a question about the differential.

I was wondering if there is a way to check the clutches in the LSD for engagement without removing the entire carrier. I have noticed on the icy roads that I am not getting good transfer of power to both wheels.

If the Clutches are toast, is it cheaper/better to go to an Auburn locker or just rebuild the Dana?

TIA

Re:LSD checks.

I don't think ICEY roads are a valid place to check your limited slip. They work off of friction thru clutch plates, and it take X-# of foot ponds to over ride the clutch pack, and alow the wheel to turn at different speeds. A better way would be to get a service manual and see what torque it list, for them to disengage. You should be able to hold one wheel from turning, and try and turn the other, if it turns before the specified torque is reached then they might not be good, guess it all depends on the readings you get.

Re:LSD checks.

Ok, I will try that..

It just seems to let the one wheel go alot more easliy than it used to. It may be tire wear to think of it..

I just had to put it in 4WD on the back roads due to the ice. You would stop but not be able to get going. Even in 4WD only one side seemed to break loose in the front and back.

I am just hoping the Limited slip is still OK.. I have serviced it regularly with the Mopar additive.. :-

BTW the rig has about 116,000 miles.
