LP and Injection Pump question

I have a 02 dually, 410 gears and an auto. Have a problem with no power on start up. Problem can last a long time sometimes and other times does not last. Feels like no boost. Did the code thing, via ignition key system, and pulled P 1693 and then P0216. Research tells me that it is the LP and the VP44. Correct? How hard is it to change the Injection pump and lift pump? When I do the LP I want to upgrade to the FASS system, 95GPH. Can I keep driving the truck or should it be parked till I change/get it changed? When the truck is warmed up it runs great lots of power and no problems. Could the VP44 still be ok? Or is it damaged for sure?

Any insight or help and advice that anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve

You might try installing another lift pump and see if the VP will stay with you. I've read where an LP replacement took care of the problem but I've read quite a bit more of the P0216 announcing VP doom.
Regardless, good lift pump fuel pressure shown on a lift pump fuel pressure gauge, a good diesel fuel treatment and keeping plenty of fuel in the tank goes a long way towards keeping a healthy VP.

0216 is a death code for the VP-44.
You can try to get by for a while, I did , but it is dieing. The code says it is a timing issue, that is why the power is down. The lift pump may have caused it. What fuel pressure did it have?
If you consistantly run with little fuel in the tank, you help it die. The fuel temp is what keeps it alive. Hot/low fuel is a negative. Returned fuel too the tank is hot.

Thanks guys for the info. When idling fuel press was around 7 or 8 psi. Incresed throttle = less press. Fuel tank is rarely below half a tank always try and keep it toped up. Talked to Dodge today and they wanted to put the in take pump in for $600.00. I decided to order a FASS pump, the 95 GPH and put it in myself. Hope that the VP is still good. Thoughts on this plan. Thanks again for the info.

Good call on the FASS system. Look at the FASSII. But your IP is toast also. Might as well order a good one on line and get it coming.
