Low speed braking problem

Only happening at slow speed, about 12 mph or less, brake pedal feels like something in the system is binding up and I have no brakes unless I really jam down on them or release and push pedal again quickly. Sounds and feels like mechanical binding, not hydraulic and not quite like the anti-lock pulsing. I can usually push thru it and get braking, but it sure wakes you up in a hurry if you're coasting up behind somebody! Rotors, pads and calipers are fine, just serviced them to verify that they weren't the problem. Anybody ever had this problem?

Well I have an '01 4x4 with 4 wheel abs and I had the same thing happen to me a few times. My problem was the front abs sensor being bad. The brakes were fine at any speed above 10-15 mph, but if at a stop sign or when ever you touched the brakes there wasn't very much. I almost t-boned a car the first time it happened, I put the truck in neutral to help it stop and i was only going about 5 mph. My mechanic told me at slow speeds the abs sensor doesn't get a good signal and the abs takes over. I couldn't get the sensors out but no worries, both wheel bearings failed soon after and they come with new abs sensors installed..

Sorry about that Infidel - I just fixed that problem. I suppose it would help if everyone knew what I was driving. My signiture should show up now.

Thanks for your thoughts Old 300. Did your speed sensor problem set a code or light up your ABS dashlight? I ask because they should do both, and mine does neither. Those sensors do come out hard, you usually wreck them when you press them out (but no problem if it's bad eh). I just hate to buy new ones if I'm not sure they're bad since they're a bit pricey just to try.
