How loud is the FASS or Airdog?

I've seen a lot of people recommending these pumps but also saying Holley Blue or Aeromotive style racing pump would work also. From my experience, a Holley Blue or racing gas style fuel pump would be way to loud for my everyday driver. Any thoughts?

I've got the AirDog. I can't say I have ever really heard it, at least not while the truck is running. A little whirl before you actually start the motor, thats it. It did smooth out the motor at idle, runs like a Singer sewing machine now.

I have the AirDog and can't say enough about it. My truck idles smoother, runs quieter and seems to have a little more snap in its step. It also elimated a high speed cavating noise I assume was coming from the old lift pump. The AirDog was built to fit our trucks where the FASS is a knockoff of one to fit larger rigs. The quality and attention to detail is the best I have seen in a long time and their support is the best I have experenced in quite a while also. They do cost just a little more than the FASS but I think it is money well spent especially if you are bombed or are going to bomb in the near future like me. I also believe the real benefit especially for us 3rd gen owners is the 3 micron filtering that is going to save our injectors from clogging. I have had THREE injectors replaced because of "injector knock" and I believe it is from dirt getting thru the factory 10 micron filter. Now that the AirDog is in it is going to be interesting to see if any more fail. Just my .02

I posted the above over at TDR the other day but yes it is also very quiet, just like localnet said.

My original FASS was the 150gph version. It was very noisy and had a lot of cavitation (sucking air). Finally narrowed it down to the 1/4" fuel pick-up tube in the 3rd Gen fuel tanks. 2nd Gen trucks don't have this problem. I swapped the motor on my FASS to the 95gph motor (lower gearing) and it is much better, but can still hear the cavitation if I listen closely from outside the truck. From inside the truck, you will never know it is there. I am putting in a bigger pick-up tube today, so hopefully that will stop all cavitation all together. Whether you go with the FASS or the Air Dog, I would recommend the lower flowing version (they both have them) as you will be much happier with the noise level and they still provide enough fuel for 500+rwhp on the 3rd Gens.

I do like the smaller package of the Air Dog, but I personally could not pay the extra cash for features I was not interested in. They both use the exact same pump, which was my main objective, so price was the deciding factor for me. When all is said and done, I'm sure you will be happy with either one. I would recommend checking into the pump only kit (no air separation and no filtration) that FASS just released for around $300.

Now if your not in a hurry and can wait for the 3rd Gen kits, or don't mind making a few modifications to your truck, the KO Engineering RASP is the way to go. I put one on a friends 2nd Gen this past summer. It is a little intricate with all the plumbing, but it is a very nice unit. We will be changing brushes in the motors on our FASS and Air Dog after 80,000 miles……he will never have to change anything. The current kit requires you to cut about 1/2" off the end of your engine fan blades to keep them from hitting the RASP. They are working on a 3rd Gen kit that will fit without modifications, but no ETA.

Good luck in your decision.

Man the BD pump doesn't come on untill 50psi? I don't think my truck has ever reached 40psi! I hope this is normal for the 3rd gens. The last truck was an '01 and had tons of oil pressure, so thats what I was used to seeing.

Alright, after looking I guess I am a tad over 40psi...
