Loud chirping sound at shutdown

My truck has always made a loud chirping sound at shutdown. The sound originates from the serp beltdrive.I have heard other trucks make this same sound and I was told by someone that there is a recall/tsb to correct it.
On a possibly related note just recently I have began hearing and visibly observing a chattering when the a/c is on. The chattering stops when the rpms come up. Tensioner? The compressor is only 4 months old.

The chirp is normal, it's a Cummins thing, but it has become less noticeable as the model years have gone by. Can't help with the chattering though, sorry

Do a search here and on Geno's garage for belt squeal / chirp. The TSB is for the overrunning alternator pulley. I went through 4 belts in 22k miles until I had the TSB done to mine. I no longer have the Cummins Chirp at shutdown

With the high millage you have you need to check the idler pulley and all components for wear, Put a breaker bar on the idler arm to release the tension and slide the belt off so you can check everything out..

Hope this helps

After 06 model year they installed one way brgs on the alternator pulley to eliminate the belt chirp at shutdown.
The tensioner pulley has also been known to go bad before and make noise, but that would happen all the time while it is running.

I have had my truck for 3 years now and I am used to the sound. The chatter thing is the main issue now. I might look in to the alt pulley just for grins.

I have an '07 that has chirpped since day one....It even had a sexy little tag hanging from the dash when I took delivery stating that the chirp was normal...Mine seems to do it when the AC is on...

Mine does this too, but only when the A/C is on when I shut it down. Defrost mode will also cause it to chirp cause it uses the A/C as well. Not a big deal to me tho.

Mine has been doing it since day one....119K now...on the original serpentine belt. (AC off when I stop)

It's a Dodge CTD trademark....you don't want to "stop" it, imo.

I've had it since day one ...look forward to it, if it doesn't happen I wonder what is going wrong. The sound of good compression, the sound of power! Love it.

Put a little belt dressing on your belt. That will stop it for a while.
