Lost Acceleration while passing traffic!

On the way home tonight I was cruzin at 70mph (to slow for me) so I pulled out to pass and when I hit 78mph I had no more pedel! Like I just hit a wall and it stayed steady at 78mph. I eased into the pedel and nothing. I let off the pedel and depressed it again and poof! Full power back and everything has been fine since. Played with it a little on the rest of the way home and has great full power and acceleration is fine. Anyone ever have this happen? ???

I was on cruz control for a while but had turned it off at least 5 mins before trying to pass. All my rig info is current in my sig.
Thanks Curt

Yeah, once with a 95. I pulled the fuel/water sep and didn't have the problem.

Re:Lost Acceleration while passing traffic!

I don't believe this is a fuel problem, it lost no rpms or speed, it just hit a wall. Accelerating and it just stoped at 78mph and mantained the rpms and speed but the pedel was still going down. let up and applied again and had acceleration again. Bizarre, anyone else with a similer problem?

I have had something similar but instead of stopping at a certain speed it just doesnt accelerate as fast. It will be pulling like a mother till about 2100 rpms (6th gear) and then it will still pull hard but you can definately feel it cut power or something. All I have is a comp running as an ez.

Sounds like a fuel problem to me. So much, no more

Sounds like a dead spot in the APPS to me.

Try the recalibration procudere, it should mark the dead spot and ignore it.

Re:Lost Acceleration while passing traffic!

Did it again tonight on the way home, 6th gear at about 70mph and accelerating, this time I had to pump the pedel a few times before it responded.
If this was a fuel problem I'm sure it would buck or studder, lose rpm and or speed. And it doesn't, there for it is not a fuel problem.
Thanks for the info Phox, going to go try that right now! 8)

Re:Lost Acceleration while passing traffic!

My truck acts very similar and am still trying to figure it out. I can be driving down the road and all of a sudden loose power and pushing the accelerator pedal down does virtually nothing. Usually happens when accelerating past someone or when going up a grade. If traveling at 70 it will slow down to 55 with the pedal floored. I can always regain power for some peroid of time by pushing in the clutch and letting the engine idle for a second.

I have replaced the MAP sensor, IAT sensor, fuel filter, and lift pump. The lift pump was the only part that did improve the situation but still did not resolve it. I also removed the APPS and cleaned the connection with no change.

Good luck!

Re:Lost Acceleration while passing traffic!

APPS, ditto on waht PHOX said. Phox told me about the recalibration and I am doing ok since. I aslo recieved a code for it(P0120 through 124 I believe are all TPS/APPS). MAP, IAT, and CKP could effect fueling though. So could a clogged air or fuel filter/line/tank. I went nuts looking for this problem and PHOX saved my hiney with the recalibration. Good luck and God Bless.

Re:Lost Acceleration while passing traffic!

If you reset the APPS, and the problem comes back. Replace it.

The APPS is also under the 100K engine warrenty.

When the APPS sends a screwy signal, and the ECM doesn't like it, the ECM will not respond to More throttle for 5 seconds, but willreduce the throttle. When the problem with the APPS gets worse, the motor will return to idle.

This could also be an early sign of a dying VP44. Watch for any blue smoke, or stumbling right after startup, and the first 1/8 mile after starting the truck.

Is your truck taking any longer to start? How old is the fuel filter?

These are a few questions you should ask yourself, and should help diagnos the problem.

Re:Lost Acceleration while passing traffic!

Does anyone have an extra APPS???? I have tried the resetting procedure several times with no change in performance. I hate to buy one without knowing for sure that it is the problem.
