Loss of power suddenly

I can start up and go, no problem but then a mile or so down the road doing say 60 the engine quits whether or not the cruise is set, I throw it in neutral and let it coast over to the side and the engine goes back to idle. If I push the accellator it does nothing but idle until it gets tired of doing that which is always not more than a minute or so and then the engine will get RPM and I can go ahead and go. The "check engine" light comes on the first time I lose this power and it stays on all day but after sitting overnight it dosen't come on until I lose power the first time. I went about 600 miles to Lexington this past week and it did this about fifteen or more times on the way there and back. I just had a LP and Injector Pump put on it two weeks ago. Is this a throttle sensor device problem and if so where is it located? 1999 2WD Cummins Many Thanks, Sonny

If your check engine light came on there must be some codes. Try turning ignition to on but don't start three times---- on off, on off, leave on the the last time. you should see code in the odometer. I believe it will say something like PCM ---- done Then ECM --- done. If you have codes they will appear before it say's done. Write them down and let us know.

It's possibly an APPS problem. It's located underneath the black cover below the dip stick.

This is the resrt procedure: This procedure has shown to help 24 valve ISB engines. It is basically teaching the fly by wire accelerator on these trucks to reread the position of the pedal and it's limits. Most complaints this will help with is poor acceleration, improper shifting, bucking in 5 and 6 speeds. Has been known to increase fuel mileage in some instances.

1. Set parking brake
2. Disconnect negative battery cables on both batteries
3. Turn ignition key to run(to drain any remaining capacitors)
4. Let truck sit for 30 minutes( this is the recommended minimum)
5. Return ignition to OFF position
6. Reconnect both batteries and secure, not a timed event
7. Turn key to run position(not start) and depress accelerator pedal slowly all the way to the floor
8. Allow pedal to return to top position slowly
9. Turn ignition switch OFF
10.Release parking brake

You're just used to those + Y2K fancy electronics. We're from the last century.

Even if the reset stops it for now, it may just be a temporary fix. Mine got so bad I had to replace it.

Seems like we go thru fazes on these trucks, when one person starts having problems all the sudden a lot of them start having it. We seem to be getting over the IP problems and now the APPS seems to be the new in thing, gotta be weather or fuel quallity oriented. I'm pretty sure my sensor is giving out on me to.

Some of the 99's had the capability.

I had to replace the whole APPS assembly. About $336 from Cummns Southern Plains. There's also a thread going right now about how to recal the APPS.
