Unhappy Loss of power above 2000 rpm

The truck loses all power above 2000 RPM. When I let off the accelerator it runs OK. It starts and idles the same as always. I am getting no error codes. I changed the fuel filter about 10,000 miles ago. The truck has 112,000 miles on it. I had the transfer pump (in the tank) replaced about 20,000 miles ago (the truck stopped on the interstate). The truck is six speed and totally stock.

Fill out your sig so we know what you are driving.

I am having the same issue around 2500 RPM's +/-. It felt like a clogged fuel line or something. I bought an air dog fuel system thinking it might be the in tank pump that has gone out once already. No change. Changed air filter no change. I am starting to think it is the clutch slipping? But I thought that would be more noticable at take off and lower RPM's? I am at a loss for where to go next. I am going to get some guages to monitor things but not sure that is going to help me diagnose.

It could easily be the filter. Mileage really has nothing to do with how clean they are as you might have gotten a bad batch of fuel at your last stop. Change it again and look for water or algae in the canister. Disconnect the fuel line that comes from the tank and blow backward toward the tank to clear any blockage at the pickup.

You say it has no power over 2000. Does it pull hard on grades at just below 2000? Will it only rev to 2000 even in neutral? In other words is it a load based problem or and RPM problem Load based probably means fuel delivery.

Thats the same stuff I heard and did but it did not change anything? I installed the new air dog and that did nothing. Need a guage to make sure it is pumping 15psi constantly but until then no change. It drives fine under a normal driving condition until you hit that 2200 - 2500 or in his case 2000 level and then it feels like even though you are constant on the skinny pedal the truck decreases in speed or stays at that level of power until you shift. If you get on it at that point it responds fine?

It could be the apps sensor. What year is your truck? I just changed my buddies last week. His would lose power randomly. It would cause a check engine light but would go back off.

The problem seems to be getting worse. After the truck warms up (about 3 miles city driving) the engine bogs when I load it above 1300 rpm. I don't dare tow anything with it because it gets much worse when it is loaded. I am going to change the filter and fill the tank tomorrow. The problem started with this tank of fuel.

Sounds like BAD fuel to me.

I changed the filter and the filter was full of slime. I wiped the bowl out thoroughly and put a new filter in. Then I filled the tank. The truck is now back to normal!!! Thanks for all your help!

Looks like you got a load of algae. Get some fuel conditioner to kill it and keep checking for water. Probably another filter change or two in the next hundred miles.

Glad you found it.
