hi
permanitly cure the problem by installing the ssi bracket and a 03 up track bar !
also do a stearing box adjustment also.

put in urathane sway bar bushings at end liinks and supports .

use 70 - 80 lbs tire psi e rated tires .

your truck will drive better than new !

Do a search for Rock Solid Ram Steering, seems alot of members on here have had positive results. I am thinking of trying it myself, as I have the same problem you do.

I just fixed my steering. I had a lot of slop at the pitman arm so I installed a DSS I bought here: http://www.pscmotorsports.com/sb100-...izer-p-90.html. That took out about 1/2 of the slop.

Next I adjusted the steering box. You can see how to do that here: http://www.dodgeram.org/tech/mods/st...ear/Adjust.htm. The web page shows the adjustments done off the truck but they can be done one the truck. I didn't have a spanner wrench so I found a center punch that fit in the hole and I tapped it gently with a small hammer. When I completed these adjustments my steering felt showroom new.

I will need to rebuild my box soon because I have leaks. I figure the leaks will lubricate my DSS until I do.

I have alot of play in my steering also. I crawled under the truck and had the wife rock the steering wheel back and forth and noticed the sector shaft on the steering box rocking a little at the bottom of the box. I can't tell if the steering gear is leaking really or not because the engine breather is blowing right on it. My question is should I worry about just adjusting the box instead of replacing it right now and just install a DSS to take care of the sector shaft movement? My truck has 70k on it right now.

I just installed a RSS bushing a few weeks ago. It took about an hour to install with the steering column still in the truck. If you have anti-lock brakes (as I do), it slows things down. Be sure to lube the steering shaft interface well! There are a few good threads floating around on this.
