Looking at a used CTD
Hey guys,
Thought I would share something that I thought was just plain stupid but I also want to make sure I am not completely wrong and I am not the one who is completely stupid....lol.
I am looking at a 2006 crew cab short bed. It has what looks like a 4 inch lift. It has 37/12.50/17 tires but the first thing I noticed is it has stock 17 inch wheels which to me makes the tires look like they are more like 8 inches wide. That`s a big no no right? I am new to the HD trucks but I know on a 1500 if you run wide tires on stock wheels you are running a BIG risk of popping a tire off while off roading. My hemi 1500 has 17x9 wheels for me to run 295/75/17 tires. Am I wrong? The tires look so narrow that it looks stupid to me. Someone correct me if I am wrong because if I buy it the first thing I am doing is ordering wheels.
The truck has 77k miles on it and is a stick shift. Don`t have a price yet. The dealer just got it in and has to run it through the shop before they will give me a price but they said they are spending 2700 bucks on replacement parts such as a new exhaust etc. Anything to watch out for on this truck before I buy if the price is right?

I ran 37 12.50's on stock rims for a couple of years, towed with it, etc. Just watch your air pressure.
06 had some mild instrument cluster issues, and the normal third gen ball joints and ac blend/recirc door issues.
77k is nothing. Look at the exhaust manifold, see if it was tapped for a pyro probe, look at the intake manifold for a boost gauge. Not necessarily a bad thing, but you'll know there was a programmer on it.
Look at the turbo for discoloration, look under the truck for signs of leaks and blowby. Ask for an oil analysis. Ask for a car fax.
Good luck!
