Looking at used 2003 models, which has the 48RE?
My first post!
I know to look at the side of the engine for the sticker with the 305hp marking for the HO engine. But how do you tell if it has the 48RE in it?
Do all the HO's or is there a starting build date?
Thanks,
Brian

Brian, drive that hot rod 65-75mph before you even think about buying it. I traded mine in because it vibrated. With 44k on it, it vibrated bad. When I was taking delivery of my '05 with silky smooth thirsty Hemi, a young buck was already negotiating on my traded '03 clean as new not even a door ding cream puff vibrator without taking it out on the interstate. I told the salesmen why I was trading so they knew it was a vibrator. I felt bad but it's theirs and up to the buyer to check it out thoroughly like I didn't before I bought it new. Maybe the mystery TSB will finally appear out of the blue.

Is the vibration a common known problem on these? What causes it?
Do you only feel it at highway speeds and can you describe it more so I know what to look for?
Looking at 2003 models because of the cheaper price.
I got rid of my Power Stroke after two transmissions and am looking for a new diesel. The thing I like about the Dodge is the smaller size.
Anything else to look for on an 03?
Thanks for the replies,
Brian

I bought a used 2003 standard output, and am wondering if I got the 47 or 48.
Thanks for any input.

brb ill check...
the code to the 48re is DG8, if it has another code (which i dont know off the top of my head) it will be the 47re. there are two transmission numbers in my glove box but the DG8 is the one that tells me its 48re... good luck hope this helps

Capp35,
Since you've decided to buy a used truck save yourself some money and buy a year older truck. I traded my 2002 HO for a 2004.5 HO and I have been kicking myself ever since. You could get a truck that gets 4-5mpg better and have more real power.
