Looking at a truck... Need info quick

I am supposed to look a a 2000 later today and wanted to know what is requred to check fuel pressure. I have a nice fuel injection pressure set for gas motors but is there some easy way to hook it into a line. This will be my first diesel and wanted to check it before I buy it. I know to check for the 53 block and check codes. Also, in the test drive are there any key things to look for to indicate a failing transmission?? What codes are dangerous when I do the key on-off thing??

Thanx,
Darkstar

I looked at probably 25-35 trucks before I bought mine. I had to put a new lift pump on right after I bought it and put a isspro FP gauge on it. No big deal.
I was more interested in overall condition of the truck, dents, abuse, well maintained, interior, options, gear ratio,Private party, or dealer auction truck. I got a private party for sale truck . There are a couple guys local that sell CTD trucks that go to texas and buy them at auctions. Some are low milage and in good condition , some are thrashed and abused, but over priced.

Id rather buy a nice truck with a bad lift pump than a thrashed one with a good lift pump.

Tranmission, just drive it and see if it works properly and check the oil , smell it , is it red or brown.

Any sleese ball selling a junk truck will erase any codes .

I just finisned looking at 2000 w/ a 140k on the clock this afternoon. My buddy brought it over for me to look at. There was a code set for his cruise control not working. This was an old farm truck that had the hell beat outta it, but upon inspecting the fuel sysytem, I did notice that it had a FASS. I was impressed that the old farmer who had it knew how to maintain the IP.

The front axle seal was leaking along with the rear drive shaft seal going to the rear diff. Other than numerous dents, scratches, a few holes in the bed, the gapping in the doors being uneven, cruise control not working, the interior torn and smelling like beer, and some half-a$$ bald super swampers, the truck wasn't in that bad of shape (JOKING).

The dealer wanted 9k flat for it. I told my buddy not to give them anything over 8k. I doubt he will buy it.
