Howdy, everyone. I hope the new year is off to a good start for everyone!

Anyway, I hit a deer the other night with my pickup. Luckily, the AC cooler, intercooler and etc. are OK, but I need a new grille and a few other small parts. The bumper was also ruined, and I think that now might be the time to install a deer splattering device on my pickup, so the grille doesn't get splattered next time an antlered rat walks across the road. I should maybe send the bill for this to the game fish & parks or maybe the state highway patrol office(thats another story ), but those cheap, worthless bastards never pay up!

I am currently thinking about using a wide piece of channel iron for the bumper and using angle iron and etc. for the grille. I built a cow plow for a Chevy this way, and I like the results.

So, I am wondering if anyone here has built their own front-mounted-deer-rifle, and if anyone has pictures or can give me a good plan, I would appreciate it! I can't afford a $500 aftermarket unit or anything, just something that I can build myself for the price of steel (which will be spendy, I know )

I'm building one too. I'll post progress reports to this thread. If it goes like most of my projects it will take a long time and it will not be pretty, but it will work.

I could try! I have given thought to shaping a bumper from diamond plated steel, but it may be a little too much work for my old wire welder. I guess that I have to price metal before a solid decision is made.

Hey, it is not big deal if it is a little ugly. Just as long as it makes any deer that comes in contact with it real ugly!

I decided to use my channel iron idea. I have almost everything but paint done, and should have some pictures in a few days. What color do you think that I should paint it? I am thinking about black, white or a silverish color(leaning toward black).

Here is a picture from my gallery, I ordered the buckstop in gray hammertone powder coat. The quality of this bumper is VERY high. The owner of the local 4WD shop has a runell which is nice but the fit and finish is now were close to the buckstop!

That grillegaurd looks nice, and thats a sweet pickup, too! Unfortunately, my bumper/grille guard will probably not look quite that good! Oh well, $86 for a piece of channel iron, scrap metal and some paint. What can I expect for that much?!

I just posted a picture of my pickup which has a custom-made grille guard on it. I bought it with it on there so I don't know much about it, but maybe the pic will give you an idea. It's rhino-lined.

That looks like a good design. I might have to see how much rhino lining costs! Anyone know of a cheap alternative to rhino-lining, OR is rhino lining the cheap stuff?

BTW, what part of SD are you from, 440?

There is a product called "Herculiner" that can be purchased at your local autoparts house. Only comes in black and grey I believe, but a similar product "Durabak" has more of a color range. The durabak is a little more expensive but is basically the same coating. It can be sprayed or brushed, and if you prep and take your time it seems to work well. As for Rhino, I've had it, and the LINE-X product is far superior IMO.

I have my grille guard done. I guess that I have for a little while, but have not gotten a chance to post pictures.





I hope that these pictures work! There is a white primer coat on it, and I think that I might leave it white. It seems to match the pickup.
