Looking for a Programer
Looking for a Programer
I am looking into a programer. Been reading a lot of stuff, and now I'm still not sure. I'm looking for better fuel mileage (getting 14-15 MPG) and the ability to turn it up on the fly when I'm towing. Was looking at the Edge. It seems simple, but not very programable. The other ones seem pretty involved. Everything is mostly stock. I don't want to start blowing things up by experimenting with all the settings. Any help is appreciated.
Smarty jr will stay within the limits of a stock truck. It is adjustable on the fly too. The easiest adjustment on the fly is how hard you push on the skinny pedal. If better milage and drivability is what you want the jr is the ticket.

An '05 should be getting better than 14-15 mpg. Is that hand calculated or overhead readout? Towing or empty? My '03 QC 4x4 DRW gets right at 20 mpg empty on the highway and the Cat scales read 8k with my tail in the driver seat. Other than the mods in my sig. everything else is stock including my 300k mile factory sticks. That truck should pull almost anything you want as it is and get good fuel economy. Have you looked into what might be causing your sub-par mileage?
14-15 mpg is calculated. That over head thinging-ma-bobber is like a politician..... I just don't trust it. It says 19 mpg. But I just reset it at this last tank, and I'll see what says.
I just put the K&N filter in it. It helped put 1-2 mpg on my '97 Dodge 2500. That got 17-18 mpg. Doubt it will put 5 on this one.
I do alot of everything. Highway, city, pull a trailer.... The best it got was 16 on a highway trip, Unloaded and 70 mph on the PA turnpike (and that was before the injectors were replaced). I thought the injectors would of been the problem. But it didn't change a bit. Pulled that big honkin' filter/cat thinging off the exhaust pipe and farmer fitted a 4" straight pipe to the tail pipe. The only thing that did was lower the pyro temp abit. I though I would see if the programer might do the trick. I try something, and run it for a month or two to see if it works, then try something else. Does any one think the turbo would cause bad fuel mpg???
I'm going to try driving like grandma for a couple of tanks and see how much it changes. I don't think I drive it hard. No different than my '97.
Thanks for your feedback!
