Looking for Newer Truck, what to look for?
Hey guys, i'm currently driving a 99 quad cab, have been for the past 9 years, and it's just time to upgrade. My old truck is still running ok, has 220000 miles on it, and not in too bad of shape, but i'm just ready for a newer model. i'm wanting to stay with the dodge diesel, something with less than 100000 miles on it, year really doesn't matter. does anybody have any advise or suggestions of anything to stay away from, or any suggestions as to a particular model or engine size to look for? most of my driving is just back and forth to work, with the occasional hauling of tractors, hay, cattle, etc. my first priority would be fuel mileage. any help or direction would greatly be appreciated.
thanks,
thanks,

Well since you obviously keep your trucks for a long time I would think you would want to get the newest 5.9 you could. So, a 2007 with the 5.9 would be my choice if I were you.

Hi,
I would suggest that you check out this PDF book from Turbo Diesel Register.
http://www.turbodieselregister.com/m...ersguide.phtml
This book covers the 1st gen, 2nd gen, 3rd gen and the new 4th gen trucks. The book tells the reader what to look for in each generation of truck such as the killer dowel pin with the 12valve engines and the 53 block issues also.
Just a good read on buying a DODGE Ram diesel pick-up truck.

I don't really see the point in changing trucks just because it has 220K on it. If it's been cared for, it's not even half way done with it's service life.
If you just want something newer because you are tired of it, then well, I understand.
I say run it into the ground and enjoy it being paid off.
