Looking to help a friend.
Ive got a friend who has just purchased an '01 Ford F350 with the Diesel (is 01 still a PowerStroke?).
Anyway, the previous owner had a Banks power chip on it. They took the chip off of it before they sold it.
This should have left the truck in its stock configuration.
However, he tells me that it has had some exhaust work done, but could not provide specifics as to what kind of exhaust work.
The truck has 40,000 miles on it.

Now, heres the symptoms of their issue:
1)
When they start it (Doesnt seem to matter if its already warmed up or starting it cold), when they accelerate, the truck hick-ups once in a while. (as though it has a quick loss of fuel but is immediately regained).
This symptom seems to go away after the truck has been run for a while.

2)
When they hold a steady speed (hi-way travel) the truck will "Shutter" from time to time. However even this isnt a constant. It seems to come and go.

3)
Last, the truck seems to have a rough idle all the time.

They have had it to the shop, but the shop found no codes and, of course, the truck seemed to run perfect while at the shop.

I appreciate any help you guys can provide.

Thanks
Rich.
here is a couple of thoughts...
I have been following thedieselstop and their various problems off and on.. The cam position sensor is famous for leaving trucks stranded. I have a buddy that has a powerstroke. While his cps didn't leave him stranded, it caused some weird stuff. I don't think the sensor costs that much. If that dosn't prove to be the problem throw the old one in the glove box as a spare... He will need it (my buddy's truck ran 175,000 mi until his went...)
Apparently the fuel pump is located on the frame rail and the hoses are connected via "quick connects" These apparently leak air (as they are on the vacuum side of the pump) go to the dieselstop and do a search for "the hutch mod" and "cackle"

Oil quality has effect on idle quality of the PSD. The injectors are oil actuated. Foaming, incorrect oil or extended drain intervals will cause problems. Start with the simple stuff first.
