Looking at a 96!

Hay everyone,

I am looking hard at a 96 extended cab 4x4 that I think I can buy right. The reason for looking is that we are trying to grow our family so the reguler cab might have to go. Please help me with some questions.

1) It has a bank$$$ power pack on it. What did this include? I know it has bank$ gauges and the twin ram, but did it include any power additives?

2) The pump looks like it has not had a plate or gsk installed because their is wire over the gsk and a tamper proof bolt on the afc unit? (would these come with the banks kit?)

3) The truck has a tranny and converter called "bulletproof" from accurate transmissions, has enyone heard or know of these?

4) How much power can be made with the stock injectors and delivery valves on one of these 180 hp trucks? (I want to go as far as I can without much of a turbo upgrade)

5) Any concerns with a 96 that I would not have had with my 94?

Thanks alot for any help.

most banks kits for 12v'c came with a #11 style plate but being a auto it may be a more agressive plate. the factor injectors are pretty smalll on these trucks. but a st of 370 will give you plenty of fuel with a #100 type plate to crest 350 rwhp. can't tell you a thing about the tranny, never heard of them. and plate kits usally came with a breakoff screw and the paint code to match the factory cummins paint so it looks unmolested. mike

The Power Pak should have the fuel plate which I understand is close to a 5 or 6 . It should also have a 14cm turbo housing with "big" waste gate. Should also have cat back 3 1/2" exhaust and Bank's muffler , and a K&N filter for the stock box. Also the Twin Ram intake which everyone here doesn't give very high marks to.
It also comes with a tamperproof screw so the installer can make it look stock , or maybe he didn't bother to install the fuel plate at all which would be kinda dumb.
I think that does it, along with the gauges of course.

Thanks guys.

It seems to pull simular to my 94 with a 10 plate and 3 gsk. It does run out of fuel a bit earlier. Not as much power as you would think with as much stuff as they added to it, but I am sure that it can be turned up a fair bit easily(#10 plate almost full forward and a gsk with bumped timming).
The tranny is much better than stock, but does not act like what I have learned to think the trulley great trannys would work like.
I think that I will have several things to fix on the truck, but I can buy it pretty rea$onable.
Given the choice do I keep the twin ram or put the stocker off my old truck on it if we buy it.
One thing the truck needs right away is a brake light switch, are they hard to change?

thanks everyone

I'd leave the twin ram on, it isn't going to hurt anything and it's already paid for. It's said it distributes fuel to the #1 cylinder better keeping it cooler. Dunno but that's what I was told. Good luck with the truck.

My 14cm housing looks just like my 12cm stock one. At least to me, so I don't think you can tell which one is on. My "Big Head" waste gate is about twice the size of the stock one. Should be very noticeable difference. When I had only the Bank's Stinger system I only made 23 lbs. boost. With the new setup boost is up to 36psi and truck is much stronger.
I have to admit however that had I been on this site prior to doing all the work I would have gone a different route and saved a bunch of money to make the same or more power. Live and learn.

Well said Rrloren

My banks kit came with all of the above, cept the PO dissed the twinram for the stocker, reason unknown.. The plate i have removed was similar to an 11 plate i put in a 0 plate but its too much smoke, i put the banks plate back for now till i can afford a larger turbo... WIth the banks plate slightly forward Its very agressive and truck feels underturboed really, stock injectors help none either, and timing if off whack... I do have the bighead actuator and can mercilessly peg out a 30 psi boost gauge and truck still pulls hard with the gauge sittin on 30

I have done other things to my rig, banks is too much money for not enough go.. i agree perfectly... Mike is right it looks unmolested. mine did and it was a pain in the butt to get off... I have other mods in the works and in a corner in my room, just waitin for a couple more things to afford so i can giter done..

Best of luck and any questions PM me..
