Looking at a 93 350- what to look for

My son is looking at a 93 2wd daully 155k miles, 5 spd, power windows, locks,ac works good. truck is clean. the seller said he's the 2nd owner.he said the pump has been turned up but not much. my son's wanting to put his welding rig on it to work out of. not real familiar with 1st gens but i've heard about KDP and 5th gear issues. is there any way to tell if these problems have been addressed, and what should else should we look for in a 1st gen.
thanks, Charlie

1st gens don't have 5th gear issues, thats the 2nd gens.

sometimes they have issues due to lack of fluid or people beating on them, but don't let that scare you, if you overfill them (5 qts) with 5w-30 fluid it makes them last a long long time...the one in our 93 has 350k on it to our knowledge....its a GETRAG 360

Just drive the truck and feel the tranny out, steering etc. remember the cummins hanging over the front puts a beating on front end parts...balljoints etc.

You're in Texas so im sure rust is no issues..but STILL check over the windsheld in the gutter for rust, they rust from the inside out

the only way youll see this is to remove the headliner or visor. If you see bubbles up there thats trouble. It can be fixed but its tricky

It probably hasn't.... not alot of people know about the KDP, and you dont know if its been tabbed because its inside the timing case. they don't all fall out.

the 93 has 354,000 miles on it and the KDP was resting snuggly inside its hole.....like the day it was new. luck of the draw really
