Question looking for a 12v

I am new to this site so I hope that I put this in the right spot. I'm looking for a 12 valve CTD W/ 5 speed 4x4. I would Prefer a shortbed but after a short time of looking I understand they are pretty hard to come by, so a long bed is OK. But anyways my question is what are some specific things I should be looking for. I have read alot about the infamous KDP on this site but are other things I ought to know about? Any info, comments, or rude remarks will be useful
Thanks

Just to let you know, the shortbed was not available untill 98'. The only way you can get a shortbed is to get an ext. cab. 98+. 12v production stopped halfway through 98. So, you get the picture.

a couple of things that i would look up is starter contacts(just did mine), front track bar( just did mine-again), shocks( just did mine again), kdp (as you know), 5th gear nut( on certain model year 5 speeds- but i believe it pertains to all 12v 5 speeds), ball joints(just did mine), inaccurate fuel gauges(not really a prob- just learn to drive by the trip odometer), lift pumps(but i believe its more of a 24v thing), fuel return line replacement(just did mine). if i were you, i would just keep reading through all of the old posts that pertain to the era of truck you are looking for. just keep in mind- you may never have a problem with anything i have mentioned- some things i just change every year on a "schedule'' because they are lifetime warranted and i live on some nasty roads. ive had my '97 12 valve for about 3 yrs and ill run it forever if i can- imo you cannot beat this type of truck with anything else out there.also, keep in mind that some '' problem'' areas are common constant replacement items on all brands of trucks- when you daily - drive a large, heavy truck it can happen.

The biggest problem I had with my 94 12 was the mistake of selling it.
