looking at an 08 2500 @ the dealer...

i decided i want to trade in my truck (07 2500 long bed 2wd quad cab 5.9L) for a 08 2500 4x4 quad cab short bed. the price on it is $48K msrp and the dealer gave it a $7500 rebate. arent the rebates going more than that? and i cant believe the price of the truck is that much, its not even a laramie. its a SLT, it has lots of options but i dont believe it has that much? what kind of deal should i expect here?

yeah, my SLt was 47K with a 54K dealer markup. I paid 37300 for it a year ago. You should get that truck for 32-33K right now unless they give you a great deal on yours.

well, obviously the stickers are over inflated. my slt in my sig had an msrp of over 49k. anyway, you should be getting 15k EASILY off the sticker. any more and it's a bonus. any less and you should go elsewhere. when i bought mine (well before the deals now), i think i got them down about 11k-12k off msrp. that was in october of '07, before the economy tanked and also before the issues became so known with the 6.7.

Hmmm.....Interesting. If you're trading in, the only price you should concern yourself with is the NET difference between the trade and the new truck. A dealer can give you top dollar for your trade-in, but then they won't move much on the price of the new truck. I just bought a 2008 Megacab SLT and the rebates (in Canadian dollars) came out to about $15,500, without a trade-in.

I was looking at a 07 QC Laramie Chasis Cab 4x4 MSRP 47+k$ I had them down to 32k$ you should be able to get them down in that range. Don't trade sell your truck.

well i really have no choice but to trade my truck in because i am still making payments on it. they wanted to offer me $16K for my trade-in and that was actually kinda insulting seeing as that i just bought my truck in april 08 and it is in great condition inside and out and has only 11K miles and has almost every option besides navigation...i hope they call me to come back in and have a better deal.

Shop around. However, your trade in is going to hurt, no matter what. Prices tanked....so did trade-ins. Sure you want a new truck?

trade ins are just going to suck in this market. their offer may sound insulting, but look at the deal you can get on a new truck. do you think you should be able to buy one for 15K off and also trade yours in at full retail. no way. if you can buy one at 15K off list, then you otta be willing to sell or trade a used one at the same percentage off book. the smart move if you have a good truck right now, is always to keep what you've got. if you really want or need a new one, then it can be justified. in this market with new trucks selling so cheaply, you can afford to be a little upside down. you'll just be eating into that great deal, and turning into a good or pretty good deal.

I just bought an 08 in Nov of 07 and traded in an 06 megacab...the dealer was 17000 off of his sticker but like others have said see what the difference is going to be with your trade.

I bought an 08 Quad Cab Short Bed 2500 6.7 CTD 4x4 with the TRX 4 off road package. Sticker was just over 45K and I got it for 34,200 with no bickering. I said gimme your best price and I feel they did. Also gave me above KBB trade in value, close to private party value, for my trade

I was in the same boat as you....had a 2wd mega with 70k on it and wanted a 4x4....they tried to low ball at first and i walked away from the dealership...they called me back in 2 days and asked what it would take...long story short I am driving the 08 and feel I got a good deal.
I did like the 5.9 though, no problems what so ever and I am hoping for the same from the 6.7
