lookin to make between 500 and 550 hp

whats yalls thoughts. with what i have already done to my truck i no that im going to have to get bigger injectors and a turbo..

Id look at a 62-74-14 or a 64-71-14 for a turbo, and some 200 hp injectors from a reputable dealer. And then you should be prepairing for head studs. Then if you vp should ever kick the bucket, swith to an so vp.

If the budget allows, I'd shoot for small twins.

Set 550 as the goal, and you'll be sure to get 500. Sometimes the gains are stingy and you don't get all of what you think you should be getting.

Mach 4's and 62/71 on an SO pump should get you there. HO pump will be a challenge.

well i dont want twins not yet anyways.. and what is a so vp i no what a hrvp is but not what a so vp is?

Standard Output, the pump that comes on the 215-235hp engines.

It definitely makes the most sense to use the HX40 on top of a set of twins.

Going to a S300 in a similar size won't be much of a gain. And may become laggier. HX/S400 can make great power and you already have one!

HO is high output correct?
So why is it better to have all the power mods with a SO instesad of HO pump?
Ive never got that.

The SO Pumps have larger plungers/barrels compared to the HO Pumps if I remember correctly. The HO pumps use smaller plungers for that little increase in low end fueling. However, since the HO Pumps have smaller plungers, they can not fuel as hard up top in the RPM range compared to the SO Pumps.

In short, if you are reaching for HP, the SO Pump is capable of pushing more fuel at higher RPMs. That's why lots of people will switch to an SO if they are going for 500+ horse, just makes it easier.

The SO pump (If i remember correctly) will move more fuel at a lower pressure and the HO has smaller plungers and won't flow as much but has a higher injection pressure. The HO trucks were set up a little different higher compression ratio etc.

So the HO pump gives slightly more power, to a stock truck.
But if your gonna start moddin it up the SO will cover the broader srectrum thats needed when goin for big power.

How do ya know which pump you have? It mentions both in my manual but I dont ever recall see/reading anywhere if my truck has the SO or a HO engine.

Look on the side of the timing case, towards the top, drivers side. It'll list HP. If it's 235 or less, it's an SO. If it's 245, it's an HO.

There are a few odd trucks out there with different combos, but usually, the 6 speed trucks got the HO pumps.
