Look out for these guys
Hey yall.
I just picked up my nv4500 from the shop. If you guys are needing a rebuild and are doing it yourself or having someone else do it, look out for parts that have a K in a circle on them. I found out the hard way that these are made in Japan with an inferior material. The gears are cast and the bearings are junk. The shop that originally built my tranny put timken races in there with these japanese bearings. The gears were also the japanese ones. I'll try to post a picture later of how those turned out after 15,000 miles at only around 320 to the ground.
There are still parts made in the U.S.A. The guy that rebuilt mine is the midwest distributor for them. These gears are billet made and use a much better steel. This guy builds most of the pulling transmissions around the Indiana area. If anyone needs a good rebuild, pm me and I'll get you his number.
