What to look for during prebuy inspection

2nd gen/12valve manual, barely modified. This might be my first dodge and I'm not sure what to look for when I check out this truck. What boost psi & egt should I expect. Anything special I should try when driving the truck. What would you look for?

Check for unusual smoke. A little burst of black or white on startup is fine. 5-15 psi boost under normal acceleration. No more than 800 degrees egt if the pyro is pre-turbo. 600 if post. As long as it's been maintained and the seller seems like the type that cared for the truck then you should be good. I've noticed that buying a truck in the 150,000 - 200,000 mile range means a lot of little stuff is getting ready to let go. If you go for a higher mileage truck, like 280,000 miles, then most of these little things have probably been replaced already. The engine and tranny aren't what you have to really worry about. It's the little stuff around it. Expect to put down $1000 to bring the maintenance up to date and more if it's a 4x4.
