Long crank (yea ha)

Hey guys,
Like the title states I have been experiencing kinda long and real long crank now for a few weeks. I brought my truck to the dealer today and the diesel tech looked her over for a bit and after testing it he thinks that I have 1 or more injectors going bad. He said the pump will put out close to 6000psi at an idle and maxes out at 26,000psi. He also said that when the truck is cranking over there is only 1000 psi and it slowly increases as it cranks. I have 115,000 miles on the factory injectors so I'm not to worked up about the whole thing.
Now the big question... What injectors??? Should I go with new injectors or should I do the tip thing. I'm putting in a South Bend clutch at the end of this week and I'll have the gauges in before the injectors. I'm planning on a turbo in the spring. I would like to get a nice power boost from the new stix.
So what do you guys think?
Thanks guys,
Topper

Why would bad injectors cause a low pressure at startup? Wouldn't it bee more likely that the fuel pump is not building pressure under low cranking speed? I am new to the diesel world and don't understand a lot of what goes on.

The way my tech sees it the injectors are leaking and it takes a few extra revolutions to build pressure. He tested the pump and it tested fine. Not sure if the injectors are all bad but hey I see a chance to add some HORSE POWER!!!
So where and what injectors should go with?
Anybody???

Have you checked your oil for diesel leaking into it? Your oil level will be higher. Have you replaced your lift pump?

Well if you are going to replace your injectors i would have to suggest going with some from Industrial Injection. I have had their 90 HP injectors since the day they came out and love them. They have been in my truck around 165,000 miles and I havent had a single problem put of them. On the other hand as far as your long crank goes I would also have your local tech check your crank and cam position sensors. Your ECM uses these sensors to know when to inject your fuel and if one isnt working correctly you can and probably will experience a long crank time. Just one more thing to check

Thanks guys!!!
I have the oil analized at every change. 10,000 miles I just changed it last week.
As far as the crank sensor goes there was a code for the crank sensor the tech said that it was fine... Maybe not... Is there anyway to know for sure or should I get a new sensor just to be on the safe side.

By the way Big Tx thanks for the advice. How much for the injectors? Also, do you tow with them and what turbo are ya running?
Thanks,

I do tow with them, not so much now as i use to but i use to be hooked to a trailer at least 3-5 days a week. I chose a Super Phat Shaft 66, its a pretty big turbo to run as a single and in all honesty if your going to be towing a bunch I would look into a 64 Silver Bullet, both are made by Industrial Injection. The 66 is a turbo to go with if your looking to make some big power, not so much for towing, even though it has worked great with my setup. On top of the turbo and injectors i started at the same time running an Edge Juice/Attitude HOT box, ATS manifold and high arc intake, AFE stage 2 intake , a FASS 150/150 , and of course some head studs. Now I already had the Edge but everything else I did all at once and yes it will hit you in the pocket book pretty hard but for me it has all been worth it. Now after all of that you can imagine that yes you will NEED an after market tranny after too long but that all depends on how hard you are on it. Me personally I would give my truck hell almost every time after i did these upgrades and my tranny still lasted a little over a year. If you are going to be doing a bunch of towing i would suggest a set of the 90 HP injectors, a good intake , a strait through exhaust , and at least a super phat shaft 62, or a silver 64 from Industrial. If you have the money i would also look into getting an exhaust manifold too. Any more questions feel free to ask.
