Long crank only when hot

Hi Guy's....after exhaustive research I am leaning towards one or more bad injectors causing a hard start / really long crank (30 plus seconds) when hot only when I shut off the truck on Diesel....If I wait a couple hours it starts right up, as well as cool morning starts are great. If I thicken my fuel with veg oil it seems to start fine. I get no smoke at startup. I have good lift pump pressure....not sure where to put a high pressure gauge on the fuel rail to test that. I had a full injector swap around 30k ago. Anything else I should look for or consider?

Thanks

I may have a buddy that has a dealer tool I can borrow...any one know what kind of fuel pressure I should see in the rail? I expect it is sposed to be over 20000 psi.

it varies according to engine RPM and throttle position. I don't think it will be anywhere near 20,000 psi while cranking. You may want to search on the topic with "rail pressure at cranking" or try to download the service manual and see if the # is in there.

Good luck

Cranking the rail pressure should be around 5-6k psi.

Have you checked the batteries and battery terminals for good connection?

I believe rail pressure once the rail hits 1500 psi it should fire right up. Idle rail pressure is 5-6k.

I hate to say it but more than likely it is the solenoid on the injector not let the engine start.

Thanks for the ideas so far....I can get 1800 psi hot on veg, but when I purge and am on hot diesel fuel...I can only hit 1400 psi......eventually after I crank for 20 seconds or so it will start to build pressure and eventually start.

When I shut off the truck the rail pressure goes to zero.

I also plugged the relief blowoff valve as well thinking that could be where my leakdown is.....no change.

After a few hours it starts fine, but not as good as new.

I have had the long crank reflash as well

Could just one bad injector cause this?

I had two that were bad for me. 4 & 5 Were my culprits. Went ahead a replaced all six. Sure been happy since I have done it. My only regret is not getting a set of injectors from Don M or another person who I trust on another website.

The diesel shop scan tool they used. It had a way to disenable and enable each injector. Very neat tool. I don't have a clue what the tool was called.
