How long can the vp-44 live

HOW LONG CAN THE VP-44 LIVE WITH A DEAD LIFT PUMP. DODGE WILL NOT REPLACE THE LIFE PUMP,SO I WILL KEEP DRIVING THE TRUCK . SO HOW LONG DO YOU THINK IT WILL TAKE TO KILL THE INJECTOR PUMP, I HAVE 76000 MILES OR 4YRS LEFT ON THE WARRANTY. :

Now why would you do that ???

If you have a known bad lift pump that they won't replace under warranty because of mods...then they could also deny your warranty on the injector pump as abuse.

My guess is less than a thousand miles before scoring and catching severely damages the pump. Replace the pump or buy a FASS system.

Warranty is not the problem here the lift pump passed dodges new flow rate check, pressure readings are a thing of the past. Thats why i will not spend my own money to fix their problem.Thats why i will drive the truck till the injector pump burns up that dodge will have to eat two pumps.

If your lift pump is bad, then the vp will be close behind. What pressures are you showing? if they are close to 8 or 10 psi at idle, then the injection pump may have a long life ahead. Any less and it may die sooner.

The pressures are, key on 10psi then drops to 0psi the wait to start light goes out, start truck idle 2psi, cruise 0psi,W.O.T 0psi. Dodge does not go by pressure readings anymore, they do a flow check now, with key on they are looking for min. of 45 ounces of fuel, mine made 48.

Re:How long can the vp-44 live

sounds like niether one is going to last very much longer. If you can, run it when the lift pump is completely dead. change your fuel filter now so you can restart it. if your truck won't start and they say the lift pump is bad and change it, your vp44 may have and probably is being damaged. Running it with NO help from a lift pump will definately kill it alot faster. Never thought I would post on how to "break" a part the fastest.

Sure your gauge isn't faulty?

I would tend to think if flow is good, there must be some pressure. Volume tests were/are the norm in carb'd motors to determine bad fuel pump. I don't think the VP actually requires pressure, just a ready supply of fuel. Pressure dropping to 0 would indicate it's getting starved.

I'd double/triple check your gauge readings.

The gauge is good its one i use at work from time to time and is current on cert. The lift pump was just above the min. of 45 ounces of fuel flow when the key is turned on and the pump primes, mine flowed 48.

Re:How long can the vp-44 live

I had a lift pump that had great pressure until you would stab the throttle really hard which must have lodged that goofy ball in the bypass valve in the pump causing a low pressure situation of about 2 psi at cruise from the 14psi that it did have, the only way i could get the pressure to come back up was to shut the truck off and restart then all would be fine again till you accelerated hard again .

if you said you have 70 some odd thousand miles left on warranty I am sure your inj pump will grenade well before that. Once they do replace everything keep a good lift pump on it from then on and you should be good to go.

Good Luck

Re:How long can the vp-44 live

My lift pump was just replaced under warranty Friday, at dodge and they used a pressure test and scan tool to check it. I would check another dealer. For the simple fact that your truck may leave you stranded in the sticks on a cold night. My dealer spec's are if it runs at idle below 10 psi lift pump must be replaced that comes from cummins direct, cummins warranty's the part not dodge they just install it.
