I have my lockup switch mounted on the dash.....I use it a good bit in the mountains.....and because of old age some times I forget to turn it off and come to a rumbling stop

Has anyone found a way to wire in a LED to these switches when they are engaged....I need something to remind me that its still on

I did the same thing yesterday. I was slowing down to make a turn, and had overdrive locked out, and forgot to turn lockup switch off until it started lugging the engine hard. I have tried to wire in an led, but it wont work because of the way the ground has to run through.I hooked the posotive to where the ground should go, then ran a ground in for power, and then tried it, and it wouldnt work. Im sure it would send the ground on through, but it wont light up. I have found that the cheaper switches with the regular light, will light up right, but i dont like them near as good as L.E.D.'s and seem to be made to cheap to suit me. If i were you, I would buy a small round light from auto zone, and mount it somewhere where you can see it good, and tap into the wire that runs out of your switch to the accessory(which would be a ground for your lockup switch), so that it would only come on when the switch is on, and have it where it is always hooked up to the positive, instead of normally the ground. I might run by auto-zone today, and pick up a small light, and try it on mine. Ive never thought about doing this before, but it should work. Ill tell you if it works if i get one.

Or.... you could just get a 4 prong switch that you hook both hot wire and ground to on one side, and accessory wire and ground to the other. You could run the ground on one side, and the wire for the led on the other. That way, when you connect the ground, you also connect the led.

Go to an alarm store and get an LED for an alarm system I have one on my 4x4 2 low switch cost $8 Canadian

I bought a small light today, and for some reason, it stays on all the time while the key is on, and gets brighter when i flip the lockup switch up ??? Any ideas? Does the pin54 wire always have a certain amount of ground to it(enough to make the light stay on, but keep the converter unlocked)????

This is how I wired my lock-up switch, it's three way so I can force an unlock also. I have a lighted toggle switch, but using a relay would allow you to use LED's.

Like Steve Roseman shows......because the lockup switch is a grounding circuit....maybe a double pole double throw switch with a hot side wire to a LED would work....that way one side would be lockup ground and the other side would be hot with a lite wired in

I messed with my light some more last night, and when the truck is running, it goes on and off just fine when i flip the switch, but when i cut off the truck, the light comes on, and stays on, even with the switch off. Does the pin54 wire in the ECM get a ground from somewhere when the truck is cut off? This is getting to be aggrovating.

Pappyman, that's exactly what I was talking about. I suppose you could have constant 12V, or ign. on for the led.

I think i can make the light i have work, but where would be a good place to tap into(12v positive), to make the light only work when the ignition is on, and not just while the truck is setting there with the key out? It should work O.K. after i do that, and should be easy on the battery too, because of it being such a small light.

Tap off of one of the fuses in the fuse box that has power with the key on......or the cig lighter

Thanks pappyman, i tapped into the cig. lighter today, and now the light works exactly how it should. Now i just have to find a good mounting spot where it can be seen easily, and the wires are hid, any ideas on that? Id like it somewhere in the dash(i have it very temporarily mounted right now), but not sure of the best spot. Any luck on getting and L.E.D. to work in your truck yet pappyman; im intrested in how it works out.

I havent had any time to do this to my rig yet.....maybe this weekend.....I have my switch mounted above my radio with room on my switch plate to put a LED I just need to pickup a new switch thats has the double posts

A good convertor is $1,000-$1,500 and a controller is $300-$500 why ruin a good convertor when a controller is so cheap? I finished off my stock convertor with a mystery switch and then threw it away, and I did have a light also.
