Whats the difference between a single disc convertor and a triple dics convertor? When do you need a triple disc?

Triple disc has 3 clutch discs for the lockup, for when you're running an extreme amount of power drag racing or sled pulling with the converter locked like all the time.
My dad talked to Goerend about his stock 2005 CTD and he said Triple Disc is not necessary until 650HP+- This is what Dunrite says too...

Actually I am unemployed right now 
But I might be going back to the oil patch. I am looking to do this this winter most likely (if I go back). I just am learning about this stuff for the time being.
FWIW, my level of happiness is not equal to all the money I have dumped into this thing. But, I will get this truck to where it should be!
