lock out hubs and milage
Anyone running either of the lockout hub kits on a 3rd gen, what kind of increase in fuel milage, if any did you get. I am getting to the point of doing a little front end work and if it makes much differance I will upgrade of the oem unit bearings.

Here is a link for you. I have never seen one installed but I called Dynatrac and they are pretty confident in their product. It is on my to-do list but I am waiting until I need to replace something. I can't justify tossing good parts.

i have the dyna-trac lock out hubs-installed about a week ago.. working on my mileage right now. i have exactly a half a tank of fuel and have traveled 354 miles-that is with 37 gallons when i filled up (fuel tank vent mod) my driving is about 40% driving on the highway and 60% city driving.the first half a tank was also with the edge juice hooked up. i had to remove it today to send it in for repairs-it crapped out this morning. so, the half a tank left is without the edge juice. i might get 700 miles out of this tank of fuel-will know in a few more days!!!

I have had the DynaTrac hubs installed for a little while the last 2 tanks came in at 21+ .... made the 700 mile club (710 miles 33.7 gal) last tank. I got just a tad over 21 MPG for the tank... 50/50 Highway/hills and around town. Best was one tank of 312.7 miles 14.04 gal for 22.27 MPG (one trip.)
That's now 2.5 full tanks at over 21 MPG. for each fill-up A 2-3 MPG increase over pre Hub conversion.
G56 6 speed and using my GV Overdrive on the highway... I go 69-72 MPH on the highway. Smarty on Moderate TM #9 with Quad Boost fooler.

I am looking to do a little preventitive work here. When the unit bearings die, you are left on the side of the road, you do not have a week or two to replace when your parts show up or for that matter at someone elses shop 500 miles from home. Add up the price for the unit bearings, and outboard joints and I think you are looking at over a grand. I am looking at it from the perspective of an upgrade kind of like a lift pump, before the original pukes and ends up costing alot more. At current rate of fuel it would take me 3-4 years to upgrade over stock components, assuming there was not more damage to my truck if the unit bearings fail.

The unit bearings can and do go out quickly.
When a unit bearing fails, the vehicle is often immediately disabled and cannot be driven anywhere until the unit bearing has been completely replaced.
The inexpensive, serviceable Timken bearings are common and can be replaced much more easily. You get some notice when they start to fail and do not go out as fast as the unit bearing hub does.

That is what I have heard also, very little warning if at all. I look at this as a long term upgrade to my truck, just as the ats manifold and sps 62 80 turbo, I don't need either, but I wanted to improve on what I had. I have ****** away more money on much lesser items in my life! Fuel will not be getting an cheaper long term and I plan on keeping the truck for a long time.

Since you're keeping the truck long term it'll pay for itself easy go for it. You can always sell the stock assembly on ebay and recoup maybe a couple hundred $$$. Also there's another company selling a kit similar to dynatrac, I think EMS ??, for about $400 cheaper but I haven't seen anyone around here try them out yet..

http://www.emsoffroad.com/ A little cheaper then Dyna trac. When I get some funds freed up Ill probably go with this kit as the DT was not designed for a DRW. (wish I could be assured my mileage would go up 2-3mpg)

I'm waiting for the unit bearings to go out on mine before I make the change. This things aren't cheap so I'm going make sure I get as many miles as possible out of them.
