Local TV Station and Cracked Dodge Ram Dashes

Local 6 here in Orlando is making a big deal out of cracked dashes in Dodge Rams. I had seen some posts about cracked dashes on Dodge forums, but it looks like it is a pretty big deal. Reportedly 100's of e-mails confirming the problem to the station after the story aired (on broadcast teasers and near the top of the newscasts for 2 days). I'm sure it won't be a big topic today as 2 large brush fires tarted yesterday and they will be the "hot" topic today (remembering 1998 - cancelled the July Daytona Firecracker 400).

I hope that the dash material has been upgraded in the newer 3rd Gen, as they were mainly focused on '01s, but made reference to newer models as well.

Wouldn't it be awesome if we could get them to bring up the Torque Converter problem that over 68% of us have a problem with

Lots of reports of cracked dashes on the 2nd gen. Also on the '02 1500's. But I haven't heard of this issue on the '03 and later models.

It really is no wonder our dashes dont crack worse! With the crazy amount of chassis twisting torque these trucks produce, it's truely amazing any plastic parts survive!! ok let me have it 3rd gen guys!

Isn't a cracked dash to be expected when your vehicle is subjected to the heat and sun in Florida?

We used to have cracked dashes here in OHIO... I can only imagine what it'd be like in Florida!

The dash in my 04 cracked, but that was because someone kicked it.

I brought it in to the dealership under warrantee and said I hit a pothole and it cracked. The service advisor laughed me out of there, I laughed too and just paid out of pocket to get it fixed.

As a side note, it is much cheaper and quicker to get a good body shop to do the work.

No cracks yet with 80k miles in MN. I know, it's colder here, but you would think the extreme temp changes would crack it.

My 99 is cracked in about 4 places. From the windshield back. It'll probably break in half when i hoist it up to replace the AC evap and heaer core.

My dash on my 2000 didn't crack - it fell apart.

And Dodge wouldn't do anything about it. The first thing I did on my 06 was put on a dash cover.

I could wait for mine to do that. I'm sure it would make changing the AC Evap easier.

I did the same thing as Danc46
The first mod I did after getting my 05 was head to the local swapmeet and got a dash cover.
They just happened to have one in stock that fit my year and color.
35 bucks.
DW made the mistake of asking what else I planned to do to the truck.
Told her she was better off not knowing.

I had my glove box out of my 07 the other day. Dodge has a huge piece of metal tubing welded across the entire dash for support. Must be because of the older trucks dash problem. I was really impressed with how the tube ties everything together under there.
