Little Diesel Generator

Hey guys, I have a small diesel generator that I've been trying to fix. The gas tank had a rubber seal that is destroyed (old age). The new seals is about $110 and I never really like the design of it anyways. So I came up with a solution but it has failed and now I'm looking for any ideas anyone has. Here is what I did;

Try using Permatex #2 from the auto parts store on the washers after cleaning all surfaces well.

You said you used pipe fittings from the hardware store.. Was it a bulkhead fitting like the one in this thread?

It wasn't a fitting like that, the nylon washer pretty much screwed into the threads of the brass nut and 90 degree barb. I put some silicon in there and wrenched it down. I was thinking with the nylon washers it wouldn't even need silicon to stop the leak. Where would I get something like this? Maybe I'll try that #2

The link in post 5 for glacier diesel shows a better fitting, you might try them and see if they will sell you the fitting only or do a Google on bulkhead fitting. Just make sure you get a diesel compatible gasket.

That seal would probably be Viton or Buena N,both are pretty much indestructible and suitable for most organic solvents.

Weld a steel plate to the bottom of the tank. Drill and tap for a pipe thread. Then you can use pretty much any pipe fitting you like.

if it is a steel tank, then just get a weld in bulkhead fitting, or a weld in bung, and knock yourself out with all the options for feed lines from that.
